s¡SRILA BHAKTIVINODA THAKURA KI JAYA 7

Share with the group extracts the monumental work written by Bhaktivinoda Thakura entitled, THE Bhagavatam, YOUR PHILOSOPHY, THE ETHICS AND THEOLOGY 7.

It was six men of Hindustan
very willing to learn,
(though none could see),
For each, its observation,
It could satisfy.
The first, the approach,
hit the elephant,
and playing his broad and strong side
then shouted:
"God help me! But if the elephant
is much like a wall. "
The second, touching the tusk, cried:
"Go!Look how funny!
Is it so round, smooth and sharp?
for me is very clear:
this wonderful elephant
is very like a spear. "
The third approached the animal,
and to take down the fallopian casually,
this he wavered in his hands,
and he spoke so resolutely:
"I see, he said - the elephant
is much like a snake ".
The fourth reached out his eager hand
and touched by the knee:
"What I most like
this amazing beast
this very clear, 'he said,
sounding hoarse -
the elephant is like a tree ".
The fifth, by chance,
touched his ear, said:
"Even a blind man
know which is more like;
Who could deny it?
This marvel of an elephant
is like a big fan. "
As soon as the sixth
felt the beast to grope
restless tail caught
I had closer.
"I see, he said - the elephant
is very like a rope. "
And so these men of Hindustan
discussed at length,
each in his own opinion
surpassing strength and firmness.
but each with some truth,
and neither was right.
moral
This happens often
theological wars in the world,
opponents, I say,
rant in ignorance
about what others say.
and prate about an Elephant
that none of them have seen.
