Bharata Varsa or India

Bharata Varsa or India, by Haripada dasa

Formerly India was called Bharata Varsa, in honor of the great Holy King Bharatha Maharaja, in the 18 chapter of the Nectar of devotion the great Holy King is glorified.

There is a good example of this detachment in relation to the character of King Bharata. In the Fifth Canto, Chapter 14, verse 43, of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam it is said: "Emperor Bharata was so attracted by the beauty of Kṛiṣhṇa's lotus feet that even in his youthful life he gave up all attachments to family , children, friends, kingdom, etc., as if they were untouchable feces”.

I remember a walk by Srila Prabhupada who said that this planet Earth is very good for spiritual unrealization, and the best place for spiritual life is India, and the best of India is Bengal, there is a saying that what it is done in Bengal, it is done all over India, and this is because Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu appeared there more than 500 years ago, He is Krishna Himself playing the role of Krishna's devotee, to teach us all to be Krishna's devotees.

The entire spiritual culture of India was destroyed by the caste brahmanas, they invented that no one can be a brahmana if one is not born into a brahmana family, Srila Prabhupada and all the guru parampara destroyed this invented idea, in the sastras or scriptures it is said that If one is a brahmana but is not a devotee of Krsna, he is the lowest of mankind, and if one is born in a dog-eating family but becomes a devotee of Krsna, he is the most glorified and fortunate person.

The Three Kinds of Happiness

The Three Kinds of Happiness, by Haripada dasa

This information is in the Nectar of Devotion, chapter 1:

Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī has analyzed the different sources of happiness. He has divided happiness into three categories, which are: 1) happiness derived from material enjoyment, 2) happiness derived from identifying with the Supreme Brahman, and 3) happiness derived from Kṛṣṇa consciousness.

In Tantra-śāstra, Lord Śiva speaks to his wife, Satī, in this way: "My dear wife, a person who has surrendered to the lotus feet of Govinda and who has developed pure Kṛṣṇa consciousness, can receive easily all the perfections desired by impersonalists; and beyond this, he can enjoy the happiness attained by pure devotees. "

Happiness derived from pure devotional service is the highest because it is eternal. But the happiness derived from material perfection or from understanding oneself as Brahman is inferior because it is temporary. There is no way to prevent one from falling from material happiness, and there is even every chance of falling from spiritual happiness derived from identifying with impersonal Brahman.

And in the Bhagavad-Gita, 18, 37 to 39 it is said that what at first may be like poison but which in the end is like nectar, and which awakens one in self-realization, is said to be happiness in the plane of the mode of goodness. The happiness that comes from the contact of the senses with their objects, and which at first appears to be nectar but at the end appears to be poison, is said to be of the nature of passion, and happiness that ignores self-realization, that it is a delusion from beginning to end, and that it proceeds from sleep, laziness, and illusion, is said to be of the nature of ignorance.

Our mission

 Our mission, by Haripada dasa

As I understand it the mission of those people who have full faith that Srila Prabhupada is the way, the truth and the life, and if someone goes back home back to God or Krishna, it is by the mercy of Srila Prabhupada It is helping each other to obey Srila Prabhupada's instructions and free ourselves from doubts, the result of doing this is that we will live with Srila Prabhupada, acquire his qualities and qualify ourselves to go back home, back to Godhead. In relation to this it is very interesting what Srila Prabhupada says in the Bhagavatam, 5, 12, 13, there he says that this movement for Kṛishṇa consciousness has been founded to engage people in the service and glorification of the Lord the twenty-four hours of the day. In this institution, students engage in Kṛishṇa consciousness cultivation from five in the morning until ten at night. That way they don't have a chance to waste time unnecessarily talking about politics, sociology and current affairs. All this follows its own course. The devotee is only interested in serving Kṛishṇa in a serious and positive way.

Another point is that we always have to emphasize strictly following the spiritual standards given by Srila Prabhupada, here everyone chants his 16 offense-free rounds of the Maha Mantra Hare Krishna, everyone follows the 4 regulative principles very strictly, 1, do not eat meat, fish or eggs, 2, no illicit sex, only sex is allowed to procreate and with one's wife, 3, no gambling, and 4, no tea, coffee, alcohol, drugs, etc., all sing the three gayatris daily, everyone follows Ekadasis, Purusottama month, Chaturmasya, Kartika Vrata, appearances and disappearances of the Supreme Lord and His devotees, everyone avoids bad association and is always happy and eager to associate with serious and sincere devotees of Srila Prabhupada, they always wear the tilaka marks on their body, they always have Srila Prabhupada at the center of their lives and they help people to put Srila Prabhupada at the center of their lives and every day they read in the morning and p Hearing Srila Prabhupada's books at night, they only eat Krishna prasada, food offered to Srila Prabhupada, Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu and Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Here everyone obeys the instructions given by Srila Prabhupada in his books on how we should use our hard earned wealth, Srila Prabhupada gives the example of Srila Rupa Goswami, when he retired from service to the Muslim government and surrendered to the lotus feet of Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu divided his wealth into three parts. 1-50 percent gave it to the Brahmanas and Vaisnavas, 25 percent for their relatives and the other 25 percent for personal emergencies, by practicing this a transcendental atmosphere is created and egoism is destroyed. Here nobody speculates, we understand and accept that a person is speculating, when he does things in a capricious way without relying on the Guru, Sadhu and Sastra.

In the Iskcon as it is only the original books of Srila Prabhupada are used, we are totally against all the changes that have been made to the original books of Srila Prabhupada.

The authentic anti-system

The authentic anti-system, by Haripada dasa

Everyone thinks that I am this body and that the goal of life is to satisfy my senses to the fullest, the authentic anti-system for this is that I am not the body but an eternal spiritual soul, and that the mission of human life is know God or Krishna and love him and go back to Godhead.

Nobody believes in God, that is why it is said that the only God that does not have atheists is money, the authentic antisystem for this is to fulfill the vow of the initiate and chant at least 27,648 Holy Names of God every day. This with practice takes an hour and a half to two.

Everyone has sex like dogs, pigs, camels and donkeys, the real anti-system for this is celibacy, the result of practicing celibacy is that one has a lot of body shine, health, a lot of memory and longevity.

To forget the suffering or to extinguish the penalties, everyone takes alcohol and drugs, we are already quite intoxicated by being in contact with the matter, the real antisystem for this is to drink only mineral water.

Everyone lusts for money and that is why everyone plays games of chance, the real anti-system for this is to get used to depending on God, in the end everyone has what they deserve.

Almost everyone eats meat, fish and eggs, the real anti-system for this is to have a vegetarian diet, personally I have been on this diet since 1983 and I do not know what it is to be sick, and to spiritualize food I offer it to God or Krishna in my temple.

After evacuating almost everyone cleans the anus with toilet paper, the real anti-system for this is to clean the anus with water, it is cleaner than the mouth, in India everyone does that.

On politics, Srila Prabupada always said that if the political heads or executives of the state are only interested in themselves, they will never be able to look after the well-being of the citizens. Srila Prabhupada always said that those who fear these hellish politicians take refuge in the Krishna consciousness process.

Another point that we have to understand is that to know and love God the person must be pure and without sins, sinful people only understand that suffering is happiness.

The Supreme Swan

The Supreme Swan, by Haripada dasa

Once Srila Prabhupada visited one of his temples in the USA, in the house in front of the temple they had painted a great insult against the Hare Krishnas, there he said that the Hare Krishna are a children of ..., so that Srila Prabhupada would not see this when He went out to do his morning walk, he was surrounded by the highest devotees, in one way or another Srila Prabhupada saw the insult and said that this house is the luckiest house in the USA, because it says Krishna, the highest level devotees are called paramahansas, that means the supreme swan, the swan has the ability that from a mixture of water and milk, he will take the milk and will not touch the water, in the same way the devotee who lives in pure goodness has the ability to drink from this world the spiritual part, the positive part, and he never touches the material part or the negative part, in other words, he takes gold even from poison, Srila Prabhupada, Jesus, Srila Haridasa Thakura, etc., envious and ignorant they attack them a lot, in the period Germany's most important story on the first page put a great criticism against Srila Prabhupada, there he said that in Los Angeles, USA, there is a guru who has his disciples like crazy selling his books, while he lives a life full of luxury.

People generally do not understand the pure devotee of God or Krishna, only a pure devotee can understand another pure devotee, in the Bhagavatam, 8.7.44 it is said that great personalities usually accept voluntary sufferings to alleviate the suffering of people common. This is considered to be the highest form of worship of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is in everyone's heart, and in the purport Srila Prabhupada says that we should strive for that which we cannot attain even if we travel the entire universe. from top to bottom, carried away by the reactions of karma. And what is that? We should strive to be Krishna conscious. When someone tries to spread Krishna consciousness all over the world, it should be understood that he is doing the best beneficial activity. Immediately, the Lord is very pleased with him, and if the Lord is pleased with him, what more can he get? It is very possible that the person who has been recognized by the Lord does not ask the Lord for anything, but the Lord, who is in everyone's heart, will give him whatever he wants. This is also confirmed in the Bhagavad-gītā (teṣāṁ nityābhiyuktānāṁ yoga-kṣemaṁ vahāmy aham). And, as stated in this verse, tapyante loka-tāpena sādhavaḥ prāyaśo janāḥ. The best beneficial activity is raising people to Krishna consciousness, for the suffering of conditioned souls is solely due to their lack of Krishna consciousness.

Cheers up! Srila Prabhupada instructed us and said that everyone should follow Jayananda prabhu's example, let's all try to obey this instruction together and make Jagat-guru Srila Prabhupada Mahasaya happy, and not do anything that displeases him.

Spiritual Science

 Spiritual Science, by Haripada dasa

Srila Prabhupada presented the process of Krishna consciousness as a spiritual science and also as a spiritual culture, in any science there are three aspects, 1, the theory, 2, the practice and 3, the result, the theory is the Scriptures, there tells you that in this age of hypocrisy and quarreling, the authorized process is to chant The Maha-Mantra Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare / Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare, and the result of this The song is that your consciousness will be purified of lust, anger, greed, envy, ignorance and pride, the process of Krishna consciousness begins with faith, faith means having complete conviction that by chanting the Holy Name of God or Krishna automatically will fulfill all spiritual duties and complete all pious activities, faith also means that one obeys what the scriptures say, Srila Prabhupada told a devotee that I tell you to chant Hare Krishna and you obey, that means that you u have faith in me.

All this spiritual science is explained very well in the first chant of the Bhagavatam, second chapter, verses 17 to 21, there it is said that hearing what the Vedic literatures say about Kṛiṣhṇa or hearing Him directly through the Bhagavad-gītā, is virtuous activity itself. And for one who hears about Kṛiṣhṇa, Lord Kṛiṣhṇa, who dwells in everyone's heart, acts as a well-wisher friend, and purifies the devotee who is always engaged in hearing about Him. Thus, in the devotee He develops. in a natural way the transcendental knowledge that is latent. As he hears more of what the Bhāgavatam and the devotees speak of Kṛiṣhṇa, he becomes established in the devotional service of the Lord. Through the development of devotional service one is freed from the modes of passion and ignorance, and thus greed and material lusts diminish. When these impurities are cleansed, the candidate stands firm in his position of pure goodness, is encouraged through devotional service, and fully understands the science of God. Bhakti-yoga thus cuts the tight knot of material affection, and enables one to immediately reach the stage where the Supreme Absolute Truth, the Personality of Godhead or Krishna, is understood.

Cheers up! And let's all together try to make Jagat-guru Srila Prabhupada Mahasaya happy, and not do anything that displeases him.

Share

 Share, by Haripada dasa

In relation to sharing there is a very interesting story, a disciple of Srila Prabhupada named Yamuna learned all the culinary art of India from Srila Prabhupada, his godbrothers told Yamuna to share everything he had learned with others, and Yamuna said no, that she had all rights reserved, then they went to see Srila Prabhupada to complain about Yamuna, and Srila Prabhupada called her and told her that if you don't share what you know with others you will become envious, so Yamuna like A good disciple wrote a book and revealed all the culinary secrets that she had learned from Srila Prabhupada.

Although I joined the Hare Krishna movement in 1984, I have had the great luck of having two very vivid dreams with Srila Prabhupada, one of them happened in a city in southern Spain called Seville, I was distributing Srila Prabhupada's books and all of them. People were very negative, I fought all day and ended up completely exhausted, and at night Srila Prabhupada appeared to me in my dreams, and I remember that he consoled me and encouraged me, and Haripada told me you are a fighter by nature, but I advise you that you never get attached to the result of your struggle, and I want you to know that I am very grateful for your service in the distribution of my books, when I got up the next day I was a new person, full of enthusiasm, and we went to another city and we distributed many books, and the other dream was in a town in Mexico, I was distributing books and I was staying in a house of devotees, it was two in the morning and Srila Prabhupada appeared to me in dreams, I remember going to s walking with Srila Prabhupada on a beach, and Srila Prabhupada told me to bring me this, bring me that and I would serve him, there I understood that Srila Prabhupada was telling me in this dream that I should always be serving Srila Prabhupada, after the dream I woke up and I grabbed the japa or rosary and couldn't stop chanting the Hare Krishna maha mantra, from 2 to 6, 4 o'clock, these two transcendental experiences with Srila Prabhupada have helped me a lot to stay fixed in Krishna consciousness, and also It is good to share these experiences, I remember reading Srila Prabhupada's walk with his devotees and he asked a devotee if he was chanting in kirtana last night, and the devotee told Srila Prabhupada that when he sang he started crying, and so he stopped to sing so that the devotees would not think that I was doing a theater, and Srila Prabhupada told the devotee to sing and cry whatever he wanted, because the devotees will understand that you are crying for Krishna.

It would be a good idea for Srila Prabhupada's disciples and everyone else to share their experiences with Srila Prabhupada. In the Govardhana Hill pastime, Krishna tells his father Nanda Maharaja that there are no secrets among holy people.

How people generally are, by Haripada dasa

I share this beautiful song of Bhaktivinoda Thakura, he is one of our spiritual teachers in disciplic succession, although he was a pure devotee of God or Krishna driven by his deep humility he puts himself in the position of an ordinary person, and says that I have always dedicated my life to commit sinful activities, you will not find in me even a trace of pious activities, only a life of sinful activities, I am always ready to cause problems for other living entities ...., that is my occupation, I want to see that others suffer , and, and when that happens, I enjoy. In order to obtain my own sensory gratification, I do not mind committing any sinful activity, I have no mercy, and I only pursue the satisfaction of my own interests, so when others suffer, I feel very happy ... I am used to telling lies , even in ordinary affairs, and when someone suffers, that is very pleasant to me, I have unlimited desires in my heart, and I am always disgusted and conceited with false prestige, envy and false pride are my ornaments, sleep and Laziness conquers me, I am always repulsed by pious activities, and I am very enthusiastic about doing impious activities, I always deceive others to gain prestige, I am subjugated by greed and I am always lustful, I am very fallen and never associate with the devotees of God or Krishna, I am an offender constantly, my mind is always attracted to morbid things, therefore, at the very end of my life, I am almost disabled due to to all these tribulations, now in my old age, I no longer have any other alternative ..., and therefore I have had to become very meek and humble, thus, Bhaktivinoda Thakura, offers the testimony of the activities of his life to the lotus feet of God or Krishna.

I remember in the book entitled Perfect Questions and Perfect Answers, Srila Prabhupada says that preaching Krishna consciousness is very difficult, because a preacher always has to go with the truth ahead, and people have so much false ego that they feel insulted, and sometimes they kill the preacher as in the case of Jesus Christ, they told Jesus if you say that you are the son of God we are going to crucify you, and he said do whatever you want, but I cannot change the philosophy. Today to be a true devotee of God you have to be very brave, because your so-called relatives, friends, and society are going to turn against you, Srila Prabhupada always said that this material world is like a madhouse, everyone is crazy , but the crazy people think that the crazy people are the doctors, and sometimes they convince them.

Humility, deception and tolerance

Humility, deception and tolerance, by Haripada dasa

Humility, humility means feeling insignificant, and if we do something positive to help others to awaken their Krishna consciousness, it is by the mercy of Srila Prabhupada and God or Krishna.

On deception, on a walk in Mayapur, India on March 14, 1976 Srila Prabhupada says that the whole world is a society of deceivers and deceived, that is my Gurudeva's version, so do not become a deceiver or allow them to fool you, that's intelligence.

All conditioned souls are born with 4 defects, 1, we make mistakes, to err is human, 2, we have imperfect senses, 3, we have the tendency to fall into ignorance and 4, we have the tendency to deceive ourselves and others .

In Srila Raghunatha Dasa Gosvami's book entitled mana-siksa or preaching to the mind, he says that the only medicine to cure deception is humility, humility means feeling insignificant, and if we do something positive to help others to awaken their Krishna consciousness, it is by the mercy of Srila Prabhupada and God or Krishna.

On tolerance, Jesus Christ was made many offenses and crucified, but he prayed to God for his offenders. He was merciful and tolerant, it is said that a great personality is measured by his degree of tolerance, of course tolerance and mercy are two qualities that go together, a person is tolerant when he is very merciful, materialists are not even tolerant nor merciful, every day they send millions and millions of innocent animals to the slaughterhouse, and they are not tolerant, I saw how one person whistled at the car in front because the traffic light had turned green and the other got out of the car all annoyed and they finished punching each other.

The initiation

 The initiation, by Haripada dasa

The process of Krishna consciousness or Bhakti-yoga is like a ladder that has nine steps, the first is faith, faith means having complete conviction that by chanting the Holy Name of God or Krishna you will automatically fulfill all spiritual duties and complete all pious activities. Those who do not have that faith are inept at chanting the Holy Name, the second step is the association with the devotees, the result of this is that faith increases, and the third step is the initiation, in the introduction to the Nectar of devotion. Srila Prabhupada says that the link with the spiritual master is called initiation. From the day the spiritual master initiates, the link between Kṛiṣhṇa and the person cultivating Kṛiṣhṇa consciousness is established. Without being initiated by a bona fide spiritual master, the true link to Kṛiṣhṇa consciousness never occurs.

On this point of initiation among the devotees of Krishna there is a schism, schism means different opinions in a group of people, some think that Srila Prabhupada authorized his disciples to be gurus in order to continue the guru parampara and others think that Srila Prabhupada On July 9, 1977, he sent a special letter to all the temples of his movement ordering his disciples to initiate in his name, the difference between these two groups is that those who say that Srila Prabhupada authorized his disciples to be gurus did not. They can show that Srila Prabhupada said that, and the other group that says that Srila Prabhupada sent on July 9, 1977 a special letter to all the temples of his movement ordering his disciples to initiate in his name, they can prove it because that letter it's there, this letter exists, and anyone can read it.

In 1986 I was initiated into Iskcon, that same year that guru fell, then in 1990 I was initiated with another guru, and when they informed me that Srila Prabhupada did not leave anyone as his successor but ordered his disciples to initiate In his name, in order not to be an accomplice in all the offenses that were being done to Srila Prabhupada, I left Iskcon, then in 2008 a disciple of Srila Prabhupada initiated me in the name of Srila Prabhupada, that has helped me a lot to feel the Srila Prabhupada's presence in my life and to purify myself from contamination by having been previously initiated by two false gurus. My humble opinion is that all the devotees who have been initiated by false gurus have never been connected to the guru parampara, a guru who is offending Srila Prabhupada because he does not want to obey the order to initiate in the name of Srila Prabhupada lives influenced by the modalities. Low from ignorance and passion, in that person there can be no goodness, that is why all those devotees must initiate with disciples of Srila Prabhupada who are obeying Srila Prabhupada's order to initiate in his name.

I share that a devotee sent me this about initiation: Lecture on SB 1.5.36 - Vrindavana, August 17, 1974: In many ways we can always remember Kṛiṣhṇa. That ... (Pause) ... if someone is chanting Hare Kṛiṣhṇa, that is fine, but chanting out of the need for initiation. Initiation means that the disciples accept the instruction of the spiritual master, and Kṛiṣhṇa accepts the disciple immediately to give him a spiritual body. This is the process. Otherwise, there is no need for initiation.

Wood and Water

 Wood and Water

Hare Krishna, it is very interesting what it says in CC Madhya 15.134, there it says that Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, “In the age of Kali, Kṛiṣhṇa manifests Himself in two forms: wood and water. Thus, by giving the conditioned souls the possibility to see the wood and to bathe in the water, it helps them to liberate themselves. And in the next verse 135 it is said that “Lord Jagannātha is the Supreme Lord Himself in the form of wood, and the river Ganges is the Supreme Lord Himself in the form of water.

Meaning:

The Vedas order: sarvaṁ khalv idaṁ brahma: Everything is the energy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the Supreme Brahman, Parambrahma. Parasya brahmaṇaḥ śaktis tathedam akhilaṁ jagat: Everything is a manifestation of the energy of the Supreme Brahman. Since the energy and the source of the energy are identical, actually everything is Kṛiṣhṇa, Parambrahma. This is confirmed by Lord Kṛiṣhṇa in the Bhagavad-gītā (9.4):

mayā tatam idaṁ sarvaṁ jagad avyakta-mūrtinā

mat-sthāni sarva-bhūtāni na cāhaṁ teṣv avasthitaḥ

«I, in My unmanifested form, am present in the whole universe. All beings are in Me, but I am not in them ».

Kṛiṣhṇa, in His impersonal form, is spread throughout the universe. As everything is a manifestation of the Lord's energy, the Lord can manifest through any energy. In the present age, the Lord manifests Himself through wood in the form of Lord Jagannātha, and through water in the form of the river Ganges. For this reason, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu ordered the two brothers, Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya and Vidyā-vācaspati, to worship Lord Jagannātha and the Ganges River.

With love and trust I share these beautiful prayers to Mother Ganga:

Sri Ganga Stotram: Prayer to Mother Ganga, By Adi Sankaracharya

1) Oh goddess Ganga! You are the divine river of heaven. You are the one who saves us from the three worlds. You are pure and restless. You adorn the head of Lord Shiva. Oh mother! may my mind always rest on your lotus feet.

2) Mother Bhagirathi! You give happiness to everyone. The meaning of your holy waters is praised in the Vedas. I am ignorant and I am not able to understand its importance. Oh Devi, you are full of mercy. Please protect me.

3) Oh Devi! Your waters are as sacred as Sri Hari's charanamrita. Your waves are white like snow, the moon and pearls. Please wash away all my sins and help me cross the ocean of samsara.

4) Oh, Mother !, those who participate in your pure waters, undoubtedly reach the highest state. O Mother Ganga, Yama, the Lord of death cannot harm your devotees.

5) Oh, Jahnavi! Your waters that flow through the Himalayas make them even more beautiful. You are the mother of Bhishma and the daughter of the sage Jahnu. You are the savior of the one who falls from his path, and that is why you are venerated in the three worlds.

6) Oh, Mother! You fulfill all the wishes of your devotees. Those who bow down to you don't have to suffer. Oh, Ganga! You are anxious to merge with the ocean, like a young man eager to meet his beloved.

7) Oh, Mother! Those who bathe in your waters do not have to be born again. Oh, Jahnavi! You are in the highest esteem. You destroy the sins of your devotees and save them from hell.

8) Oh, Jahnavi! You are full of compassion. You purify your devotees with your holy waters. Your feet are adorned with the crown jewels of Indra. Those who seek refuge in you get the blessing of happiness.

9) O Bhagavati! Take away my illnesses, sadness, difficulties, sins and bad attitudes. You are the essence of the three worlds and you are like a necklace around the Earth. Or Devi! You are the only refuge of mine in Samsara.

10) Oh, Bargain! Those who seek happiness adore you. You are the source of happiness for Alakapuri and the source of eternal bliss. Those who reside on its banks are as privileged as those who live on Vaikuntha.

11) Oh Devi! It is better to live in your waters, like turtles or fish, or on your shores like a poor chandala, than to live far from you like a rich king.

12) Oh, Goddess of the Universe! Purify us! O daughter of Jahnu muni! Whoever recites this Ganga Stotram every day certainly achieves success.

13) People who have devotion to Mother Ganga always achieve happiness and achieve liberation. This beautiful and lyrical Gangastuti is a source of supreme happiness.

14) This prayer, Sri Ganga Stotram, written by Sri Adi Shankaracharya, Lord Siva's devotee, purifies us and fulfills all our wishes.

The Cultured Person

The Cultured Person, by Haripada dasa

By the mercy of Srila Prabhupada we understand and accept that the cultured person is identified because he has three basic qualities, these are: 1) he sees all women as mothers, except his own wife. There are seven mothers: the original mother, the priest's wife, the king's wife, the spiritual master's wife, the nurse, the cow, and the Earth. 2) See the properties of others as straw in the street, in other words, be satisfied with what you have and not want or envy the goods of others and 3) Do to others what you would like them to do to you and not to do to others what you would not like them to do to you. Can you imagine a society made up of people with these qualities? It would be a perfect partnership. We see how nowadays people consider all women as their wives and their wife does not pay attention to her. There is an inordinate competition to surpass others, both personally and between nations and no one thinks about the welfare of others. They are all politicians, a politician is one who makes plans to be happy without thinking about the welfare of others. Nowadays a cultured person is considered for his diplomas and degrees and not for his qualities. The spiritual culture of India was killed by people who invented or speculated that one can belong to the high class or be a priest by birth, but in the Holy Scriptures it is said that one belongs to the high class or priest by qualities, not his birth matters.

Srila Prabhupada was authorized and empowered by God or Krishna to revive the spiritual culture of India, by his mercy and his instructions he turned people from all over the world who were like crows into swans. There is a story related to this topic: The Himalayas were going to give birth, to have offspring, and all the most important people in the universe gathered there, and everyone was in great expectation. Timpani and other musical instruments sounded, and what did Himalaya give birth? A mouse. Everyone was very frustrated. Thus, nowadays, so many austerities and sacrifices that people make to get a career, and then when they obtain the diploma, they have to go with their curriculum, wagging their tail like a puppy, looking for a master. This is very unfortunate. And in schools, in the past it was considered something very punishing for a child to throw paper balls at another child in the class, or not to pay attention to the teacher; But nowadays, a young man goes with a machine gun and begins to kill his companions for no reason, my God! how things have changed for the worse.

Today chaos reigns, finding a balanced person is very difficult, what to say to find a pure devotee of God or Krishna, so that all this negativity does not affect you one must be very strong spiritually, it is as if it is very cold , one bundles up and that's it. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati always said that whatever else they do as they want, it doesn't concern me, I already have enough work chanting Hare Krishna and being happy and free.

Mercy

 Mercy, by Haripada dasa

By Srila Prabhupada's mercy we understand that justice means the balance, each person has what they deserve, the law of karma, and that mercy is a much higher concept than justice, since mercy means that they are giving you something. that you don't deserve A merciful person suffers when he sees others suffer and is happy when he sees others happy in God or Krishna consciousness.

Mercy and tolerance go hand in hand, a very merciful person is very tolerant, for example, envious people did many offenses to Jesus Christ, they humiliated, beat and crucified him, he had to tolerate the intolerable, however Jesus Christ was at the same time merciful and prayed to God to forgive their offenders because they did not know what they were doing, also the great devotee Srila Haridasa Thakura for chanting Hare Krishna the Muslims beat him in twenty two markets, and the chief of the Muslims told the executioners that If they did not kill him he would kill all their families, and Srila Haridasa Thakura out of compassion for the executioners so that they would not kill their families went into a coma and died, the Muslims threw Srila Haridasa Thakura's body into the Ganges River, and when he touched the The water was resurrected and came out on the other shore singing Hare Krishna, seeing this the Muslims realized that they had committed a great offense to a holy person and they went there and t They went to the lotus feet of Srila Haridasa Thakura to forgive them, here we see a great difference between the Jewish and the Muslim race, to this day the Jews have never asked forgiveness for all the offenses they did to Jesus Christ, without However, the Muslims immediately apologized to Srila Haridasa Thakura for their offenses.

Materialistic people are neither merciful nor tolerant, to satisfy their palate they send millions and millions of innocent animals to the slaughter every day, and when they are at a traffic light and the car behind whistles turns green, the man grabs the fake ego and gets out of the car and fists it fixed.

Once a disciple of Srila Prabhupada told him sentimentally to give him his mercy, Srila Prabhupada told him that I have given you 80 books of 400 pages each, if you read my books and practice what you read, the result of this will be that your latent love for God or Krishna will awaken and your human life will be a success, this seems little mercy. The difference between Srila Prabhupada and other gurus is that God or Krishna sent Srila Prabhupada from the spiritual world to do a mission on Earth, that is why he is called jagat-guru or saktyavesa avatara, the guru of the universe or the Savior of the world. , Srila Prabhupada's mission was to give us his books, he called their meanings his spiritual ecstasies, unfortunately many very demonic people have used the figure of Srila Prabhupada to satisfy their personal and selfish interests, and for doing this God or Krishna is punishing them very severely. The transcendental activities of God or Krishna and Srila Prabhupada bring pleasure to pious devotees, but for the envious, they bring pain.

An ocean of mercy

An ocean of mercy, by  Haripada dasa

Srila Prabhupada is an ocean of mercy. The spiritual master receives the blessing of the ocean of mercy. Just as a cloud pours water on a forest fire to put it out, the spiritual master releases the afflicted material world by extinguishing the blazing fire of material existence. I offer my respectful obeisances to the lotus feet of that spiritual master, who is an ocean of auspicious qualities.

I share a very moving story, we were in Vrindavana, India, in the house of some Italian devotees, we were respecting some maha-prasada pizzas, a very old disciple of Srila Prabhupada arrived, I don't remember her name, but I know she was Lohitaksa's wife , she told us that Srila Prabhupada was in the temple in New York and they were doing guru puja, suddenly a person with very long hair and a beard and very dirty entered the temple as if it were a dog on all fours. He headed towards Srila Prabhupada, Srila Prabhupada recognized him immediately, and crying at Srila Prabhupada's lotus feet told him several times that forgive me I have failed you, Srila Prabhupada crying was stroking his head, and all the devotees in the guru puja were crying, then that person left and no one ever heard from him.

A few years ago I was talking to an Iskcon guru in Vrindavana, India, he told me that Srila Prabhupada deviated from the guru-parampara by ordering his disciples to initiate in his name or the Ritvik philosophy, as this philosophy does not come in the Sastras or Scriptures, when I heard this I thought that this person has less intelligence than a mosquito, I told him that Srila Prabhupada distributes his mercy to everyone, but if you do not want to obtain it, the fault is yours, Srila Prabhupada ordered his disciples who initiated in his name, this is supported by a special document that Srila Prabhupada sent to all Iskcon from Vrindavana, India, on July 9, 1977, anyone can read this document, and if you do not want to obey this order, blame It is not from Srila Prabhupada but from you. I also told him that according to Harinama-chintamani, the result of offending the guru is that one becomes a mayavadi or atheist. Then some years passed and we also saw each other in Vrindavana, and he said sorry for what I told you several years ago, I replied that you should not ask forgiveness from me, but from Srila Prabhupada.

Letter to Srila Prabhupada

Letter to Srila Prabhupada, by Haripada dasa

Celebrate the Transcendental Appearance of Srila Prabhupada, all the devotees who serve and love Srila Prabhupada make a letter called the Vyasa Puja letter, Vyasadeva is a literary incarnation of God or Krishna, He wrote all the Vedic literature , The Bhagavad-gita, The Srimad-bhagavatam, The Mahabharata, etc., and the birthday of our spiritual master is called Vyasa Puja day, on this day the spiritual master is glorified and thanked for all his mercy All this spiritual knowledge that Vyasadeva gave us is transmitted from the guru to the disciple through the chain of disciplic succession, all those truths are eternal and never change, that is why Srila Prabhupada always said that the philosophy of Krishna consciousness is very easy. Because we don't have to invent anything, we just have to repeat what the previous spiritual teachers said.

Thanks to Srila Prabhupada we have found the Truth and the Truth will set you free. Thanks to Srila Prabhupada we have come out of ignorance, which is the cause of all suffering. Thanks to Srila Prabhupada we have understood the purpose of human life, understand and love God or Krishna, and since there is only God or Krishna and His energies, by doing this in a natural way one loves everyone and everything. Thanks to Srila Prabhupada we have understood that this material world is full of envy and is not a place for a gentleman, here there are only deceivers and deceived. Thanks to Srila Prabhupada we have hopes of going home to return to God and Krishna and His devotees, and the experience of having been in this material world will be a bad nightmare. Thanks to Srila Prabhupada we have understood that we are not the material body, but eternal spirit souls, eternal loving servants of God or Krishna and His devotees. Thanks to Srila Prabhupada we are no longer a ship without a rudder, now Srila Prabhupada is the person we trust the most and love the most. If Srila Prabupada hadn't come, what would have become of us.

Light and darkness

Light and darkness, by Haripada dasa

I share this beautiful verse from Srimad Bhagavatam, 1, 3, 43, which says that this Bhāgavata Purāṇa is as bright as the Sun, and has arisen just after Lord Kṛiṣhṇa's departure to His own abode, accompanied by religion, the knowledge, etc. People who have lost their vision due to the dense darkness of the age of Kali will have to receive the light of this Purāṇa. The essence of all the instructions in Srila Prabhupada's books is to come out of the darkness and come to the Light, and also in The Chaitanya Charitamrita it is said that God or Krishna is like the Light and maya or ignorance is like the dark, where God or Krishna is there can be no darkness. Also in the Bhagavad Gita, God or Krishna says that this energy of Mine, maya or darkness, is very difficult to overcome, but those who surrender to Me can easily overcome it, in other words, maya is controlled by Krishna, and when a soul obeys the laws of God or Krishna, Krishna tells His energy not to influence His devotee, thus the devotee enjoys full and total freedom. In the process of surrendering to God or Krishna one must: (1) accept everything that is favorable for the performance of devotional service, (2) reject everything that is unfavorable for it, (3) firmly believe in the protection of the Lord , (4) feel that you depend exclusively on the Lord's mercy, (5) have no interest apart from the Lord's interest, and (6) always be meek and humble.

The biggest problem today is the hypocrisy in people, hypocritical people put a stamp on themselves and say that I am Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hare Krishna, etc., but those people have no interest in knowing God and love him, their only interest is to have many followers and live like kings and fight each other, that is called Kali-yuga the current era full of hypocrisy and quarrels. At the end of the preface to the Bhagavad Gita, Srila Prabhupada says that we therefore hope that people will gain the greatest benefit of all through studying the Bhagavad-gītā as it is in the way we have presented it here, and if If only a man becomes a pure devotee of the Lord, we will consider our effort a success. One of Srila Prabhupada's most devoted and beloved devotees named Jayananda prabhu left the body a few months before Srila Prabhupada entered his Samadhi-lila, and Srila Prabhupada said that he had gone to Goloka Vrindavana, to the spiritual world, so we concluded that Srila Prabhupada's mission has been a complete success.

Lead by example

Lead by example, by Haripada dasa

I take this opportunity to thank all the people who send me donations, I pray to Srila Prabhupada and God or Krishna to always bless them.

Western educators say: “Don't follow me; follow my words ”; Or, put another way: "Do not do what I do, but what I say." Srila Prabhupada's life refutes this principle, as he applied all the instructions in his books in his own life and was a vivid example of them. There is not a single instruction in his books that he has not personally followed, and therefore there is no disparity between his writings and his life; between his actions and his words.

Srila Prabhupada taught us that a true spiritual master is one who preaches with his personal example, once Sanatana Goswami told Haridasa Thakura that you are the perfect devotee of God or Krishna, there are those who preach but do not practice and there are those who practice but not preach, but you practice everything you preach.

I share a beautiful verse from the Bhagavad gita, 3, 21, there it says that common men follow in the footsteps of a great man, whatever action he performs. And whatever guidelines he establishes through exemplary acts, the whole world follows them, and in the purport Srila Prabhupada says that the generality of people always requires a leader who can teach them through their behavior in practice. A leader cannot teach people to quit smoking if he smokes himself.

Srila Prabhupada always said that what people like the most is to be deceived and suffer, and he also said that one of the great impediments to expanding Krishna consciousness is the large number of deceivers there are, and how people She is so lazy to do the spiritual awakening they take advantage and tell people you give me 30 euros and I will give you a mantra and in six months you will be God, and people are so stupid that they believe it. That is why this society is one of deceivers and deceived.

The words convince, but the example drags. In the Jaiva dharma it is said that if someone gives religious advice without practicing it himself, it becomes a source of evil for the world.

Two thoughts to ponder:

1- Give good advice to a wise person and they will appreciate it and give good advice to a foolish person and they will get angry.

2- If you have nectar in your heart you will never give poison and if you have poison in your heart you will never give nectar.

Srila Prabhupada's Men

Srila Prabhupada's Men, by Haripada dasa

Srila Prabhupada's men are people who have decided to use their lives to please Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada's men are by nature meek and humble, but when they see that there are people who offend Srila Prabhupada they are like lightning bolts. In the same way that drug addicts cannot do without their drug, Srila Prabhupada's men cannot live without reading Srila Prabhupada's books every day. Srila Prabhupada's men are always making plans for people to be happy in Krishna or God consciousness. Srila Prabhupada's men are the smartest people because they are always chanting Hare Krishna. Srila Prabhupada's men love even their enemies. Srila Prabhupada's men never engage in sense gratification. Srila Prabhupada's men are the only people who have overcome lower taste by finding great satisfaction in higher taste.

Srila Prabhupada's men are assured of their return home, their return to Godhead. Srila Prabhuada's men use everything for the service of Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga. Srila Prabhupada's men are obedient to Srila Prabhupada's instructions. Srila Prabhupada's men have no time for maya. Srila Prabhupada's men understand and accept that Srila Prabhupada is the Acharya through his books for the next 10,000 years. Srila Prabhupada's men establish relationships with other devotees based on spiritual love and trust. Srila Prabhupada's men are very careful to offend any moving or immobile living entity. Srila Prabhupada's men have found a taste in being the servants of others. Srila Prabhupada's men have decided that their love is for Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada's men understand and accept that many unauthorized people have used Srila Prabhupada for a living.

Srila Prabhupada's men understand and accept that Srila Prabhupada is our direct link to the guru-parampara. Srila Prabhupada's men understand and accept that Srila Prabhupada is the Jagat-guru the guru of the universe and to all devotees who have accepted Srila Prabhupada as the way, the truth and the life offer their respectful obeisances. Srila Prabhupada's men establish a friendly relationship and see all the devotees who have accepted Srila Prabhupada as their Gurudeva as godbrothers. Srila Prabhupada's men obey Srila Prabhupada's order to initiate on his behalf, they don't speculate.

Most beneficial

 Most beneficial, by Haripada dasa

By the mercy of Srila Prabhupada we understand and accept that there is nothing more beneficial than associating with the pure devotees of God or Krishna, the association with the pure devotees of God or Krishna is more valuable than all the riches of the Universe and more valuable than going To the heavenly planets, a moment of association with the pure devotees of God or Krishna can free you from birth, death, old age and disease and go back home to God or Krishna.

If the association with the pure devotees of God or Krishna is so valuable because people do not associate with them, the answer is that the generality of the people or the heads of families think that their main duty is to give themselves to solve family problems , and that self-realization or enlightenment in spiritual knowledge is a secondary matter, and it is also that such people are very poor of heart that is why they do not associate with the pure devotees of God or Krishna.

I remember a class by Srila Prabhupada who said that people think that the time I am listening to a class of the Bhagavad Gita or the Bhagavatam, that time is better used to be in the office or at work and thus earn money. It is a very practical fact that one's desires and ambitions develop according to the company one has. If one maintains association with the devotees of God or Krishna, he will surely develop love for God or Krishna.

I share this beautiful verse from the Srimad-Bhagavatam (3-25-25) which says: “Conversations about the pastimes and activities of the Supreme Personality of Godhead in the company of pure devotees are very pleasant and satisfying to the ear and heart. One who cultivates this knowledge gradually advances along the path of liberation until he is liberated and his attraction is fixed. Then true devotion and true devotional service begin. "

Those who think that the great Masters like Srila Prabhupada and other Masters of the disciplic succession die, they reason eternally in their instructions and those who obey them live with them.

Krishna consciousness

 Krishna consciousness, by Haripada dasa

When Srila Prabhupada founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in 1965 in New York, a friend of his told him why he did not put God consciousness instead of Krishna, and Srila Prabhupda replied that Dio is somewhat vague, but Krishna is something concrete, and if someone does not know that Krishna is God, come here and we will explain it to them.

In the preface to Krishna's book Srila Prabhupada explains why Krishna is God: Now, one can ask the question why is Krishna the Supreme Personality of Godhead? The answer is, because He conforms exactly and in detail to the descriptions of the Supreme Being, the Divine, in other words, Krishna is God because He is supremely attractive. Beyond the principle of supreme attraction, there is no other meaning of the word "God." How can someone be supremely attractive? First of all, if someone is very rich, if he possesses great wealth, then he becomes an attractive person to people in general. Similarly, if someone is very powerful, he also becomes an attractive person; and if someone is very famous, very beautiful, or wise, or detached from all kinds of possessions, he also becomes an attractive person. Thus, from practical experience we can observe that one is attractive thanks to: 1) wealth, 2) power, 3) fame, 4) beauty, 5) wisdom and 6) renunciation. One who possesses all these six opulences simultaneously, and who possesses them to an unlimited degree, is understood to be the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Parasara Muni, a great Vedic authority describes these opulences of God. We have seen many rich, powerful, famous, beautiful, learned and learned people; we have seen many people who belong to the renounced order of life and who are detached from material possessions, but we have never seen anyone like Krishna in the history of mankind, who was simultaneously and unlimitedly rich, powerful, famous, beautiful , wise and detached. Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is a historical person who appeared on this planet five thousand years ago and behaved just like a human being; but his activities were unparalleled, from the moment of his appearance to the moment of his disappearance. Each of their activities is unique in the history of the world, and consequently whoever knows what we mean by the word "God" will accept Krishna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. No one is equal to God, and no one is greater than Him. That is the meaning of the family proverb "God is great."

Krishna consciousness means the art of focusing our attention on God and giving him our love. Many people think that they will be happy promoting the cause of moral principles and religious rites, others think that they will be happy in economic development, and others through sense gratification, but the truth is that people can only be happy loving God or Krishna. And all the great representatives of God in different cultures like Jesus Christ, Srila Prabhupada, Muhammad, Confucius, etc. preach this truth: Love God above all things, and your neighbor as yourself. Krishna consciousness is not a sectarian but a universal process, and it is practiced all over the world, Srila Prabhupada always said that Krishna consciousness is simple for the simple-hearted and for those who are serious and sincere and it is complicated for those of twisted mind. Although the origin of Krishna consciousness is India, punya bhumi the land of piety, the caste system ruined the entire spiritual culture of India, so Srila Prabhupada came to the west to preach Krishna consciousness and then went to India with its Western disciples and Hindus were very surprised that Westerners full of love for God chanted the Hare Krishna maha-mantra. It is very interesting what Srila Prabhupada says in the introduction to the Bhagavad Gita about the difference between faith and sanatana dharma, faith can change, we see that a Christian becomes Muslim, or becomes Hindu, or vice versa, but sanatana dharma it does not change, sanatana means eternal, and dharma means duty, the eternal duty of the eternal spiritual soul is to serve God or Krishna and His devotees.

Personally I am very happy and happy to see that so many people are interested in knowing God and loving him, it is a fact that today there is a great spiritual awakening throughout the world, and that there are more and more peaceful dialogues between religions, The other day a friend of mine told me that Pope Francis spoke about the law of karma and when Srila Prabhupada was asked what he thought about Jesus Christ, he always said that Jesus Christ is our spiritual master, thank God we are no longer of the age In the middle of the Inquisition era, that for saying that the Earth was round they burned you at the stake, while that was happening in the West in India Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu and his associates were discussing the Srimad Bhagavatam that informs us of the nature of all planets of the universe and the distances between all the planets in a scientific way.

The Symptom of Love

The Symptom of Love, by Haripada dasa

Years ago, a devotee named Devarsi prabhu translated some things from the books of conversations into Spanish and gave me those translations, I remember reading there an interview between Sria Prabupada and one of her disciple, Srila Prabhupada said that I will be a Christian and you will be Hare Krishna, Srila Prabhupada told him that we have millions and millions of followers, temples, etc., and you are very few, the devotee said but we have love for God or Krishna and that is the important thing, Srila Prabhupada told him He said that we also have love for God and we go to church and pray to him, the devotee told him that if you had love for God you would obey his orders, Jesus ordered you not to kill and you have the best slaughterhouses, and Srila Prabhupada told him that there It is where I wanted to take you, the symptom that you love God is that you obey his orders, a person who does not know God or love him cannot obey God's orders. Today there are many groups of Christians, and also of Hare Krishnas, so that they do not deceive you you must see if these people are obeying the orders of Jesus and Srila Prabhupada.

One of the points of the philosophy of Krishna consciousness is that we are not interested in the opinions of an ordinary person, ordinary people have four kinds of defects, the first defect is that they tend to make mistakes, another defect is being in illusion , the third defect is the propensity to deceive and finally our senses are imperfect. Any opinion that is not the revealed truth, lacks any value, the revealed truth means, the truth, or scripture that comes from a reliable source, the chain of disciplic succession formed by genuine spiritual teachers is the reliable source; for these people are pure and self-realized souls, and they are free from the four defects mentioned above. You can fool yourself and others, but no one can fool God or Krishna and His pure devotees.

In Srimad Bhagavatam, 5, 26, 15 Srila Prabhupada says that whether we are Hindu, Muslim or Christian, we must all follow the religious principles that correspond to us. However, whoever invents his own religious path, or does not follow any religious principle, will be punished in hell.

Helping each other

Helping each other, by Haripada dasa

As I understand it, association with devotees means helping each other, and if in this association we see someone who has a lot of hypocrisy, personal interests and contradictions, our duty for the good of that person and of others is to help him, Srila Prabhupada He said that I am very proud to have had a disciple like Jayananda prabhu, and he also said that everyone should follow his example, the essence of Jayananda prabhu's life is that everything he did was to make Srila Prabhupada happy, not in him there were personal interests, having personal interests in Krishna consciousness is terrible, I once sent a message entitled the spiritual aspect, the essence of this message is that Srila Prabhupada taught us in practice that when the spiritual aspect is very strong, God or Krishna is very satisfied and reciprocates with giving a lot of intelligence and material opulence, association of devotees means open relationship based on love and trust, should We should ask each other, how are your 16 rounds going, you are singing them, you are following the 4 regulative principles, you are reading Srila Prabhupada's books, when there is a good relationship with the devotees we overcome our hypocrisy and impersonalism, I share a very nice poem From Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura who has helped me a lot, he always said: "Forget the past, it is asleep, and in the future your heart should not dream, and in the present you must become Krishna conscious, that is your obligation."

When Srila Prabhupada came to the USA, he wrote some very beautiful poems, in one of them he said that when all the souls who are suffering in this material world are happy in Krishna consciousness, the wish of the Acharyas or authorized spiritual teachers will have been fulfilled. . That is the only wish of a true devotee, that everyone be happy in Krishna consciousness. About leadership in Krishna consciousness, my humble opinion is that a leader is the one who has the most capacity to serve, Jesus always said if you want to be a leader become the servant of all, I share that Srila Prabhupada gave readings of the Nectar of Devotion in The 1972 Kartika at the Sri Radha Damodara in Vrindavana, its themes were the association of devotees, the position of the spiritual master and living in Vrindavana. "The spiritual master should be treated as Hari, the Supreme Person, although he is offered the same respect as Hari, he must think that he is a humble servant of Hari and everyone, he thinks of his disciples as if they were his spiritual teachers , that is the position, he must think that Krishna has sent him many spiritual masters, he does not think of himself as a spiritual master, he thinks that he is a servant, because they have to be trained, Krishna has named him as the one who is going to train them, therefore he must think that he is the servant of his disciples. "

Everyone has a chance here

Everyone has a chance here, by Haripada dasa

Here in the process of Krishna consciousness everyone has the opportunity to chant The Maha-Mantra Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare / Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare (the H is read as J of jota), and be happy in Krishna consciousness, here there is neither discrimination nor exploitation, everyone has the opportunity to lead a pure and sinless life, for that you have to follow the 4 regulative principles, 1, do not eat meat , fish or eggs, 2, no illicit sex, only sex is allowed to procreate and with one's wife, 3, no gambling, and 4, no tea, coffee, alcohol, drugs, etc., all have the opportunity to be initiated by a disciple of Srila Prabhupada who initiates in the name of Srila Prabhupada, there is no place for opportunists or to climb ranks here, here we are all friends and humble servants of each other, we are all friends and spiritual brothers and sisters , and the one who has the most capacity to serve, we accept as l Natural der, of course we follow the spiritual label which says that the senior devotee with more experience gives his mercy to the minor devotee, and the minor devotee is grateful and respects the senior devotee, everyone has the opportunity to follow all the instructions given in Srila Prabhupada's books, and helping each other do the same, by doing this we live with Srila Prabhupada and acquire his qualities. Our love and service is for Srila Prabhupada, and we have full faith that Srila Prabhupada is the authorized person who is going to take us back home, back to Krishna.

Here we are not interested in the opinions of an ordinary person, ordinary people have four types of defects, the first defect is that they tend to make mistakes, another defect is being in illusion, the third defect is the propensity to deceive and finally our senses they are imperfect. Any opinion that is not the revealed truth, lacks all value, the revealed truth means, the truth, or scripture that comes from a reliable source, the chain of disciplic succession formed by genuine spiritual teachers is the reliable source; for these people are pure and self-realized souls, and they are free from the four defects mentioned above. Here nobody speculates, we understand and accept that a person is speculating, when he does things in a capricious way without relying on the Guru, Sadhu and Sastra. Only the original books of Srila Prabhupada are used here, we are totally against all the changes that have been made to the original books of Srila Prabhupada. Here we have full faith that Srila Prabhupada is the way, the truth and the life, and if someone goes back home back to God or Krishna, it is by the mercy of Srila Prabhupada.

Most amazing

 Most amazing, by Haripada dasa

Once a great sage asked King Maharaja Yudisthir what is the most amazing thing there is, and the King replied that you see that relatives, friends and other people die, but one thinks that I will never die.

Usually people do not like to talk about death because they are very afraid, it is said that the devotee of God or Krishna experiences God through devotional service and that materialists and atheists experience God at the time of death. I remember a video of Srila Prabhupada speaking with some theologians and Srila Prabhupada telling them that God will come like death, and all his money, his prestige, his family, etc. It will be taken away, do you understand God now? God or Krishna says in the Bhagavat gita that I am death, I remember that in the fourth song of Srimad Bhagavatam to Maharaja Dhruva a plane from the spiritual world came for him and taking advantage that the personification of death came, he put his feet on the head of death to get on the plane, so until death he takes pleasure in serving the devotee of God or Krishna.

It is very interesting that the personification of death is represented as a skeleton with a harvest, that is to remind us that what you sow, harvest, in other words each person is the architect of his destiny, each one has what he deserves. , and God or Krishna also says that this material world is a place of suffering and temporary, someone can argue that I have a lot of money, women, material enjoyment, yachts, etc., that you have because you deserve it because surely in your life In the past you did many pious activities, but do not forget that everything is temporary. God or Krishna has created everything, therefore everything belongs to God or Krishna, as Srila Prabhupada always said that a person is honest and honest when he uses everything to serve God or Krishna and His devotees.

The process of God or Krishna consciousness is a scientific process, and it is for very brave people who want to raise their consciousness to a higher state, unhappily nowadays people think that God or Krishna things have already gone out of style. , now we are going to live full of lust, anger, greed, envy, pride and ignorance, and we are going to suffer and be deceived, that is true happiness, and out of envy they criticize and say that the devotees of God or Krishna are parasites of society, they do nothing for the country, for the family, always chanting The Maha-Mantra Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare / Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare (the H is read as J de jota), it is said that in the paradise of the foolish and ignorant, being a wise man is great foolishness.

Serious and sincere

Serious and sincere, by Haripada dasa

Srila Prabhupada always said that the devotee must be serious and sincere in his Krishna consciousness practices, this also applies to mothers, serious and sincere means that one does not deceive himself or others, in others In other words, one is not a hypocrite, we in a practical way show Srila Prabhupada and God or Krishna that we are serious and sincere when we practice verses 2 and 3 of the Nectar of Instruction, there it is said that when someone becomes too entangled in the After six activities, your devotional service is ruined; (1) Eating more than necessary, or accumulating more funds than required; (2) trying too hard for worldly things that are too hard to get; (3) talking unnecessarily about worldly subjects; (4) follow the rules and regulations of the Scriptures solely for following them and not to advance spiritually, or reject the rules and regulations of the Scriptures and work independently or whimsically; (5) associate with people of worldly inclinations who are not interested in cultivating Kṛishna consciousness; and (6) covet worldly achievements and there are six principles that favor the performance of pure devotional service: (1) be enthusiastic, (2) strive with confidence. (3) be patient, (4) act according to regulative principles [such as śravaṇaṁ kīrtanaṁ viṣṇoḥ smaraṇam: hearing, chanting and remembering Kṛishna, (5) leaving the company of nondevotees, and (6) following in the footsteps of the previous ācāryas. These six principles undoubtedly ensure the complete success of pure devotional service.

In the Padma Purana it is said that so that we are not inhabitants of hell we have to be very careful with these 4 things, 1- see the Deity of Krishna as if it were a stone, 2- consider that the chanting of the Maha-Mantra Hare Krishna , Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare / Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare (the H is read as J for j), it is a worldly sound vibration, 3- see the charanamrita, or the water that washes the Deities as simple running water and 4- see the devotees from the material point of view.

Hare Krishna, with love and trust I share what Srila Prabhupada said in Sri Radha Damodara in Vrindavana, Kartika 1972: APPRECIATION, Narada Muni says that the devotee always appreciates the qualities of other devotees, yes, that is the sign, appreciation of the activities of the devotees, a devotee who is currently liberated from all contaminations does not find any fault with other devotees, he does not think of himself as a great devotee, or greater than others, he thinks of himself as the most low of all, as the author of The Chaitanya Charitamrita, Krishna dasa Kaviraj says that I am as low as the insect that lives in the excrement, I am more sinful than Jagai and Madhai, whoever takes my name, immediately all the results of his pious activities fade away, it is not imitation, any devotee who is currently advanced, he feels it, just as the great scientist Sir Isaac Newton used to say that I have simply collected a few grains d e sand of the ocean of knowledge, indeed that is a fact, everything is unlimited, so no one should be proud that they have become a great devotee, everyone should be very humble, trinad api sunichena, taror api sahisnuna, amanena manadena, kirtaniya sada hari, if one thinks that he has become a very advanced devotee, that is very dangerous, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said that my spiritual master saw me as a great fool, therefore he has punished me, do not read the Vedanta Sutra, sings Hare Krishna, He introduced himself in that way, he is Caitanya Mahaprabhu murka, fool, that concept has an advanced devotee, he never thinks he is a very advanced devotee, what is it to be advanced, the devotion that we can offer him to Krishna, He is unlimited, He kindly accepts our service, that is all, do not take pride in becoming a great devotee, that will be a first class fall.

Once a brahmachari devotee or celibate monk had an affair with a woman, when Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati found out he told him to leave the temple, and when the devotee was leaving the other devotees began to insult him by saying that you are a fallen, a deceiver, etc. , when Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati saw this he admonished his disciples and told them that I thought you were merciful people, and on another occasion a devotee had some discussions with other devotees and left the temple, when Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati found out he told the devotees that They went to look for him all over Calcutta, the devotees knew that he was an expert in fixing watches and they went to all the watch shops, at last they found him and the crying devotee told them that he was very sorry for the separation of the devotees and he went to live with devotees.

Srila Prabhupada always said that all the chaos that the Earth lives is due to the lack of serious and sincere devotees of God or Krishna, in the Adi Purana God or Krishna tells Arjuna that whoever says that he is My devotee, that is not My devotee, but the one who says that he is My devotee of My devotee of My devotee, that yes is My devotee, and in the Padma Purana Lord Siva tells his wife Parvati that the highest worship is to serve God or Krishna, but higher than that is serving the devotees of God or Krishna.

But the happiness derived from material perfection or understanding as Brahman is inferior because it is temporary.

Extra education

 Extra education, by Haripada dasa

I share this beautiful verse from The Bhagavad Gita, 9, 2, there it says that this spiritual knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets, it is the purest knowledge, and because it gives perception of the self through enlightenment, it is the perfection of religion, it is eternal and it is joyfully executed. Following in the footsteps of our spiritual master Srila Prabhupada I try to state the facts very logically, nowadays finding a balanced person is very difficult to say that finding a pure devotee of God, usually people are so absorbed in life material that they forget to feed the soul, the result of this is that people live full of anxieties and disturbed, a person full of anxieties and disturbed will never experience peace or happiness.

The other day a friend told me that now in Spain they are introducing meditation in schools, they see that children so young are so full of anxieties and disturbed that meditation will at least calm their mind. But they don't know what true meditation is, true meditation means finding God who is in the heart and following his instructions, the result of this is that one becomes divine. We urgently need extra education, spiritual education, the first lesson is to understand and accept that we are not the material body, but eternal spirit souls, and that the relationship with the body is temporary, but the relationship with God or Krishna is eternal and full of bliss. and knowledge. In the spiritual world there are three things, there is God or Krishna, there are his devotees and there is the love relationship between God or Krishna and His devotees, the spiritual world is our natural environment, the material world is the perverted reflection of the spiritual world, therefore Because here people live full of anxieties and disturbed, it is as if you took a fish out of the water and gave it all the material facilities, the fish would never be happy since its environment is water. The goal of human life is to know and love God and go back home to God.

There is a big difference between a teacher and a spiritual master, the teacher is paid a salary to give certain information, but the spiritual master is empowered and authorized by God or Krishna to bring people back to Godhead, of course provided that the disciple obeys his instructions.

I am that inhabitant of Vrindavana

I am that inhabitant of Vrindavana, by Haripada dasa

Once a disciple of Lokanatha swami told me that his guru had told him that he once told Srila Prabhupada that you say in your books that to get into the mood of Vrindavana we have to follow in the footsteps of an inhabitant of Vrindavana, but I I do not know any inhabitant of Vrindavana, and Srila Prabhupada told him THAT I AM THAT INHABITANT OF VRINDAVANA.

The whole problem in Iskcon and outside of Iskcon is the poor realization that people have of understanding and accepting what and who Srila Prabhupada is. Srila Prabhupada is a SAKTYAVESA AVATARA, A NITYA SIDDHA, THE MOR SENA PATI THE COMMANDER IN HEAD OF THE SPIRITUAL FORCES OF SRI GAURANGA MAHAPRABHU, THE ACHARYA OF OUR DISCIPULAR SUCCESSION WHO SAID THE CAVESAMENT OF SENA, WHICH SAID THE CAUSAM NOSAMARI DEL NESTABLECERANY TO ESTABLISH CARE KRISHNA WILL BE SING IN EVERY TOWN AND VILLAGE, THE ACHARYA THAT HAS MOST EXPANDED THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF KRISHNA ALL OVER THE WORLD, THE ACHARYA THAT THROUGH ITS BOOKS WILL BE THE ACHARYA FOR THE NEXT 10,000 YEARS. Now why do people not understand or accept this, because instead of obeying Srila Prabhupada they offend him, if a person obeys Srila Prabhupada and chants his 16 rounds, he follows the 4 regulative principles and does Srila Prabhupada a service with faith. , love, attachment and gratitude, Krishna or God will be very happy with that person and from the heart will give him the ability to LOVE KRISHNA OR GOD AND EVERYONE, TO GIVE MERCY TO THE INNOCENTS, HE WILL GIVE THE LOVE TO THE DEMONS AVOIDING THEM AND WILL DO FRIENDSHIP WITH THE TRUE DEVOTERS. Only good souls who have sacrificed their lives to make Srila Prabhupada, God or Krishna happy gives them the intelligence to understand what and who Srila Prabhupada is.

Today there are very unfortunate people, people who think that they are on the same level as Srila Prabhupada, (SPIRITUAL SUPERMANS) people who are very sick of the soul, and who do not believe in God or Krishna, nor in Srila Prabhupada, nor in the law of karma. These people are called mayavadis, and anyone who comes into contact with such people their spiritual life is ruined. The fate of those people is very dark.

We all know what Srila Prabhupada wants from us, that we chant our 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra without offense, that we follow the 4 regulative principles very strictly, 1, do not eat meat, fish or eggs, 2, no illicit sex, only sex is allowed to procreate and with one's wife, 3, no gambling, and 4, no tea, coffee, alcohol, drugs, etc., that we lead an honest life without deceiving ourselves or others , that we establish personal relationships with other devotees based on love and trust, that we do not change the message of the guru-parampara, that we do not fight among ourselves, that we free ourselves from sexual attraction by experiencing a higher taste or in other words may we be HAPPY IN KRISHNA CONSCIOUSNESS, SARVE SUKHINO BHAVANTU.

That the Jagat-guru, the Savior of the fallen, Saktyavesa Avatara, MOR SENA PATI, THE COMMANDER IN HEAD OF THE SPIRITUAL FORCES OF SRI GAURANGA MAHAPRABHU, A.C. BHAKTIVEDANTA SWAMI PRABHUPADA bless you and protect you all.

Simple life and high thinking

Simple life and high thinking, by Haripada dasa

By the mercy of Srila Prabhupada we understand and accept that by leading a simple life with high thoughts we are happy in this material world and we are preparing to go back home to Godhead.

Simple life means that we need some clothes, some prasada (prasada is God's mercy, food offered to God), and a place to rest.

High thinking means thinking of God or Krishna and of the representative of God or Krishna Srila Prabhupada, and of all the acharyas or spiritual teachers of the guru-parampara, of the Pañca Tattva and of Sri Radha Krishna, it also means thinking of doing good to others. Furthermore, sending positive messages for people to reflect and try to raise their states of consciousness, also means giving prasada to others, in the Food for Life program of Vrindavana in India and in other parts of the world, millions have been given and million plates of prasada.

That is pure spiritual life. Material life is the opposite, it means living to satisfy the body and mind, and it is based on selfishness, me and mine and not giving any food to the soul, never thinking of God or doing good to others, rather always think how to deceive others and the law of the funnel, the width for me and the narrow for others.

The great Saktyavesa Avatara Jesus Christ, gave us his teachings: "Love God above all things and your neighbor as yourself, do not do to others what you would not like them to do to you, and do to others what You would like them to make you, if you have two blankets and you see that another does not have any, give him a blanket and share what you have with others, so you will free yourself from envy and selfishness, he also spoke that there is a Kingdom of God and that the goal of life is to return to the Kingdom of God. "

In relation to Christians, Srila Prabhupada said that if Christians worshiped Deities and obeyed Jesus Christ's command not to kill, they would become devotees of God or Krishna.

Love for God

Love for God, for Haripada dasa

There is a spiritual book called the Madhurya Kadambini or the Nectar Clouds of Srila Visvanatha Chakravarti, there in a scientific way reveals all the experiences that we all must go through from faith to love for God, faith means that one obeys the instructions given in the holy scriptures, then one associates with the devotees, that increases the faith, then one is initiated by the authorized spiritual master, the initiation means that the disciples accept the instruction of the spiritual master and Kṛiṣhṇa accepts the disciple immediately to give him a spiritual body, the result of initiation is that one becomes purified of all the dirty things of the heart, such as lust, anger, greed, etc., then one becomes fixated on devotional service, then one likes the spiritual life, then one becomes attached to the spiritual life, then one experiences spiritual emotions and then one comes to love for God, and thus one fulfills the purpose of life Human love for God is eternally there in everyone's heart, and it is awakened when one practices Krishna consciousness. Ecstatic love for Kṛiṣhṇa (prema) is explained in the Bhakti-rasāmṛita-sindhu (1.41) with the following words: “When the heart has completely softened and is free from all material desires, and when emotional feelings become very strong, a person becomes very attached to Kṛiṣhṇa. This purified emotion is known by the name of pure love.

In the state of love for God or Krishna he considers his friends as useless as a desert, too big, and his home becomes like a thorn forest, the food becomes completely tasteless, the praise of other devotees seems to him like the bite of a snake, daily activities seem as painful as death. All the members of his body are like an unbearable burden, the consolation of his companions is like poison. Although he is constantly awake, he is awake. Like an ocean of penance, and if the dream comes it is seen as mortal (worldly) anguish. His body seems like the Lord's target of punishment. And breathing seems as sterile as sowing roasted grains. What else can be said? That what were always his favorite things are now abandoned as great calamities. Even thinking about the Lord is like tearing your body to pieces.

Cheers! Srila Prabhupada instructed us and said that everyone should follow Jayananda prabhu's example, let's all try to obey this instruction together and make Jagat-guru Srila Prabhupada Mahasaya happy, and not do anything that displeases him.

Love your enemies

Love your enemies, by Haripada dasa

Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati always said that I love even my worst enemy and her Gurudeva Gaura Kisora das babaji always said that all living entities are worthy of my veneration. What is an enemy? It is a person who insults, belittles, envies and humiliates us. It is said in verse 9 of chapter 6 of the Bhagavad Gita that a person is even more advanced when he considers everyone - the honest well-wisher, friends and enemies, the envious, the pious, the sinner and those who are indifferent and impartial. - with an even mind.

Jesus Christ always said that praying to God for friends is easy, but we must pray to God for our enemies. They made many offenses against Jesus Christ and crucified him, but he prayed to God for his offenders. He was merciful and tolerant, it is said that a great personality is measured by his degree of tolerance, of course tolerance and mercy are two qualities that go together, a person is tolerant when he is very merciful, materialists are not even tolerant nor merciful, every day they send millions and millions of innocent animals to the slaughterhouse, and they are not tolerant, I saw how one person whistled at the car in front because the light had turned green and the other got out of the car all annoyed and they finished punching each other.

I am going to tell two true stories that illustrate love your enemies.

This story comes in the Bhagavatam, there was a great yogi named Durvasa Muni, once Durvasa Muni for no reason offended a great pure devotee of God or Krishna named Ambarisa Maharaja, God or Krishna never tolerate offenses to His devotees and sent his weapon personal called the Sudarsana Chakra, when Durvasa Muni saw the Sudarsana Chakra that was going to punish him he fled through all the planets, he even came to the spiritual world and threw himself at the lotus feet of God or Narayana and asked forgiveness for offending His devotee , God or Narayana told him to go and ask forgiveness from His devotee, not Him, Durvasa Muni went and asked Ambarisa Maharaja for forgiveness and saw that Ambarisa Maharaja was praying to God for the yogi's sake, and Durvasa Muni said that now I have Having understood the glories of the pure devotees of God, I have offended you and in return you have prayed to God for my good fortune.

And the second story is very incredible, it is told in the Chaitanya Charitamrita, there were two terrible brothers named Jagai and Madai, they were drunkards, womanizers, etc., once Lord Nityananda was chanting Hare Krishna through the streets of Navadvuipa, and when they saw this The two brothers were angry, one of them grabbed a clay pot and broke it on Lord Nityananda's head and it started to bleed, and Lord Nityananda told him that you have hurt me, but in return I will give you love for God or Krishna, when the brothers saw Lord Nityananda's attitude they fell at his lotus feet asking for forgiveness, and Lord Nityananda forgave them, and then these two brothers became pure devotees of Krishna, and all the people were very astonished .

Love and trust

Love and trust, by Haripada dasa

In general, people think that love means giving in love affairs as much as they receive from the other person, they are simply business deals, selfish or self-centered, and when this fails, violence enters, and they kill each other. Sincere love can be seen when parents love their children despite their children's rejection. Then there are the self-satisfied people, they do not require anybody's love, these people are absorbed in thoughts about the Supreme Personality of Godhead and thus they do not care if someone loves them or not, these people are oceans of mercy, and they try to help human society so that people become pure devotees of God or Krishna, these people are full of love for God or Krishna, and as there are only God AND His energies, naturally they love everyone already Everything, to understand this point there are two examples, when one waters the root of a plant, the branches, stems, leaves and flowers naturally benefit and by feeding the stomach, all the senses are satisfied. The goal of human life is to awaken the latent love that we all have for God or Krishna, and God or Krishna reciprocates giving us bliss, spiritual knowledge and eternity.

Unfortunately there are ungrateful people, it is said that they are insensitive, and they rebel against superior people, which means that they receive favors from their parents or the spiritual master, and even then they neglect them. Srila Prabhupada said that relationships between devotees should be based on LOVE AND TRUST, and by establishing these relationships wonderful things will be done to serve and please God or Krishna and His devotees. In spiritual relationships based on love and trust there is harmony and happiness, there is no selfishness or envy, and in material relationships there is only selfishness, envy and a lot of suffering.

Trust is lost when there is betrayal. Trust is only possible between pure devotees of God or Krishna, because only devotees of God or Krishna have good qualities, materialistic and atheistic people do not have good qualities, we see in practice that they fight each other for nothing. The relationships between materialists and atheists are based on deceiving each other, everyone understands and accepts that materialists and atheists are scammers.

Glories to Srila Jayananda Prabhu

Glories to Srila Jayananda Prabhu

We celebrate the disappearance of Srila Jayananda Prabhu, I share this glorification of Jayananda Prabhu, this great devotee is the example of the perfect disciple of Srila Prabhupada, this great devotee will be a great inspiration for future generations of devotees of Srila Prabhupada and Krishna, just as I I understand, the essence of this great soul is that all he did was for Srila Prabhupada to be happy, and he never did anything that displeased Srila Prabhupada, he was not a politician, I like him, he is my friend, he falls for me wrong, is my enemy, was humble, tolerant and everyone's friend, and never criticized anyone, Srila Prabhupada said that I am very proud to have had a disciple as good as Jayananda prabhu, everyone should follow his example. This great devotee enjoyed serving Srila Prabhupada and Krishna and the whole world, and that is the perfection of Krishna consciousness, that can only be done when one has awakened his great love for Srila Prabhupada and Krishna. As I understand it, only people who have sacrificed their lives to make Srila Prabhupada happy can receive the mercy of Krishna, if you want see a video about Jayananda Prabhu this is the link:

Sri Jayananda Thakur (1939-1977)

After the series of previous notes on various aspects of the Jagannatha-lila and the Ratha-yatra celebrated at this time, I considered it fair to publish something in homage to our esteemed spiritual brother Sri Jayananda Thakur, a beloved disciple of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. With his admirable pioneering effort, he contributed greatly to the celebration of the Ratha-yatra festivals, being loved by all devotees and recognized by Srila Prabhupada.

The translations that follow, after my introduction of this document, of some biographical fragments about Jayananda Prabhu, are part of a couple of books dedicated to his life of service and other references cited within the context. As a graphic complement of this note in his tribute, they accompany several special photos that will serve as a visual complement for readers to appreciate justly, the spiritual dimension of life and the service rendered by Jayananda Thakur, "the king of Ratha-yatra".

Jayananda Prabhu (Jim Kohr) was a very dedicated disciple of Srila Prabhupada who helped to introduce the festival of Ratha-yatra (festival of the floats of Lord Jagannatha) in the West, beginning in the USA. He pioneered the construction of the Ratha-yatra wagons, whose first festival was held in San Francisco in 1967 and Jayananda was the one who built the carriages with a group of devotees who worked under his expert guidance. Although at that time he was not sannyasi, he was highly respected in Srila Prabhupada's mission. For his pioneering effort in the Ratha-yatra festivals in several cities of U.S.A. Jayananda was known as "Mr. Ratha-yatra. "

His humility was exceptional and even after being recognized by all and by Srila Prabhupada, he continued to clean the pots and the kitchen for the other devotees, taking out the garbage, and doing whatever was necessary. Although he had an engineer degree, he gave up that to be a taxi driver because he could not relate to materialistic society. He was very sober and mature. And with his work as a taxi driver he maintained the San Francisco temple, being the president of the temple while working as a taxi driver.

He was tireless, working up to twenty hours a day when necessary. And he knew how to direct people and occupy them practically. His humility was exceptional. On one occasion, a devotee (called Sankarsana) saw Jayananda on the street and offered his obeisances. And Jayananda right there on the street, prostrated himself and returned his reverences without even knowing him.

Even after being recognized by all and by Srila Prabhupada as a great example, Jayananda continued to clean the pots and the kitchen for the other devotees, taking out the garbage and doing everything he could do. To know more about this great saint it is recommended to read the book Radha-Damodara Vilasa, written by P. Vaiyasaki Dasa (at the moment, available only in English). Another book is A day in the life of Jayanada Thakur, from Vishoka dasa.

Although among the disciples of Srila Prabhupada there are many other non-praised saints and heroes, the great personality of Jayananda Thakur stands out as an exemplary disciple, as a pioneer of the Ratha-yatra, for his dedication to Prabhupada, for his austerity, his humility, for his spiritual accomplishments and to be loved by all. His place of honor, recognized by Prabhupada, occupies a very prominent place among his other disciples, some of whom left this world to meet Srila Prabhupada in his eternal pastimes.

By establishing Krishna consciousness everywhere, Srila Prabhupada realized that prophecy of Mahaprabhu and also the desire predicted by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur, when he said that the day would come when the devotees of the West and the Bengali devotees would gather in the land of Lord Chaitanya and everywhere to dance ecstatically and sing together "Hari Bol! Hari Bol! " This has already been miraculously fulfilled in the manifested pastimes of Srila Prabhupada, and with unprecedented success, beyond what his own spiritual brothers and Vaisnavas from all over the world could have assumed.

By masterfully fulfilling the order given to him by his spiritual master, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur, establishing the international mission of Krishna consciousness in only twelve years of uninterrupted pure service around the globe, Srila Prabhupada consolidated the message of the previous Vaisnava acharyas that he represented genuinely. Jayananda Prabhu and many other notable disciples were great factors in establishing that divine mission of sankirtana.

As Srila Prabhupada said, the Sri Jagannatha is not only Purinatha, the Lord worshiped in Puri-dhama, but the Lord of the entire Universe, where he is now known and worshiped by millions of devotees. Despite this desire of Jagannatha-deva himself to leave Puri for the celebration of His Ratha-yatra around the world, as Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati wanted, in his original temple of Puri, entry to those who are not "Hindus", despite being devotees of Jagannatha.

On May 19, 1934, in the ancient temple of Lord Alalanatha near Puri, in Orissa, which we visited, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur, made the following prophetic statement:

"We must take Lord Jagannatha on a plane to Eastbourne, London. There Alalanatha, Gaudiyanatha and Gopinatha will appear. We must install the Deity of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in all parts of the world, otherwise there will be nothing auspicious for the human race. "

This other prophetic vision was fulfilled by his disciple Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, our beloved spiritual master and Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). By order of his guru, Srila Prabhupada went in 1965 to preach to the West, and arrived in New York to establish his mission. Two years later, he instituted the first Ratha-yatra festival in San Francisco, following what he had done early in Calcutta during his childhood. And Jayananda Prabhu was an essential pillar for the celebration of all the Ratha-yatra. From the first festival that was held in San Francisco in 1967, until his last days already prostrate in bed and sick with Leukemia, Jayananda Thakur was the fundamental axis for the realization of this great service, until it disappeared on May 1, 1977 .

Jayananda also exemplified that, in order to attain spiritual perfection, what matters is the sincerity of a disciple and the intensity of his surrender to the spiritual master. In just 10 years of pure devotional service serving Prabhupada's instructions without deviation (vani-seva), Jayananda achieved the success aspired by all devotees. Bhakti is the cradle of bhakti and, obviously, it must be understood that besides having undoubtedly received the causeless mercy of the spiritual master (guru-kripa), such mahatmas are very rare and surely come from the practice of bhakti in previous lives, or by the Lord's desire, to assist the mission and pastimes of Sri Gurudeva.

Beyond the limiting bodily concept, alien to the true teachings of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Sri Nityananda Prabhu, who wished to flood the entire world in Kali-yuga with the prema-sankirtana, which began in Srivas-angam, the full understanding of the Krishna consciousness is beyond all consideration relative to the body, caste, social condition, color, material status, creed or religious affiliation, because the Bhagavata-dharma which is the creed of the Vaisnavas followers of Mahaprabhu, is the eternal occupation (sanatana -dharma) of the living entities (jivas) as eternal servants of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Bhagavan Sri Krishna, Sri Jagannatha, the Lord of the universe.

That is why Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura clearly expressed in his book Jaiva-dharma, that the eternal occupation of the jiva is the Vaisnava-dharma, which is above material considerations relating to the particular body, nation and / or India, because the Absolute sense of devotional service does not depend on bodily conceptions. That is the essential message that must be understood in the transcendental teachings of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

By initiating disciples from all over the world and turning them into sincere devotees of the Lord, such as Jayananda Prabhu, Srila Prabhupada showed his great mercy without cause to the most fallen conditioned souls, both in the West and everywhere, because even in India, earth of the dharma, from the time of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati and his father, Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur, many of his natives were confused by the influences of the British Empire, which, despite the efforts of our great acharyas of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries to counteract such It continued to happen even after India won its "independence," freeing itself from the imperialist yoke by the efforts of Gandhi and a united people. However, true independence is the release of attachments, desires, material conceptions, and relative considerations based on the temporal notions of "patriotism," "religion," "socio-economic policies and approaches," etc., which they are all factors of material order, which have nothing to do with the true emancipation of the being or the liberation of the yoke of the illusory energy.

In pursuing the great work undertaken by predecessor Vaisnava preceptors, our guru Maharaj, Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, was an exemplary and revolutionary acharya who was able to adapt without deviations the Gaudiya Vaisnava siddhanta, according to the time, place and historical circumstances that he had. face to consolidate its divine mission of preaching at an international level.

If it had not been for that titanic, incomparable and magnanimous effort of Srila Prabhupada, no one would currently know Krishna consciousness so well, nor could he participate in the wonderful Ratha-yatra festivals in many parts of the world. And it must also be understood that all respectable senior devotees of India (sannyasis and / or leaders of other missions of the Gaudiya Math), who have been able to come to the West to preach after Srila Prabhupada's departure, would not have had the reception nor the the acceptance of his preaching, if not for the consolidated work of our guru maharaja.

By establishing Krishna consciousness everywhere and sowing in the hearts of his disciples the seed of bhakti-siddhanta, none of the Vaisnavas who have traveled outside India, where they only had a few temples, few local followers, and relatively timid missions and without experience in a great international preaching, he would have had the acceptance and relative success that has allowed them to extend some branches in certain parts, publish certain works and bring together new people attracted by his presence. Although we are all part of the tree of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, which has different branches, and we are devotees of the Rupanuga-Vaisnava family, without the incomparable pioneering work of our Srila Prabhupada, who knew how to expertly adjust Krishna consciousness in the Western countries full of souls falls, no one could have been able to collect the fruits sown by his divine mission and his transcendental preaching.

It is my duty as your faithful disciple, to point out all of the above, so that Srila Prabhupada's position as Visva-acharya (jagad-guru) and pativa-pavana, the savior of the fallen ones, is sometimes recognized by those who are not relativized. they know the spiritual indifference of their divine mission or the transcendental character of Prabhupada as a great acharya, eternal pure devotee of the Lord. I say this with all respect for other sincere Vaisnavas.

By arrangements of the Lord, since Prabhupada left India in 1965 to fulfill the instruction of his spiritual master, until he left this world in Vrindavana in 1977, in those twelve years of international preaching we joined his Divine Grace many disciples we received his mercy without cause. We all humbly helped in spreading their mission while Prabhupada was present among us.

That is still happening through the survivors that we still have, as magnanimous extensions of his great mercy without cause. It also manifests itself through the new generations of devotees, prabhupananugas linked in some way to their direct disciples, or new followers enlightened by their works and the preaching of their devotees throughout the world. All this has benefited even large-scale Vaisnavas, who have left India to continue the preaching of the sankirtan movement of Sri Chaitanya deva, finding fertile ground thanks to the mercy of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Jayananda Thakur was depositary of that kripa, and in translating these the following biographical fragments, I wanted to pay a humble tribute to this great disciple, sometimes called "Mr. Ratha-yatra. "

Due to Srila Prabhupada's unjust mercy, Lord Jagannatha is now famous throughout the world. The Ratha-yatra has become a popular celebration in almost every major city such as London, New York, Paris, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Rome, Zurich, Sydney, Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Denver, Washington, New Jersey, Detroit , Seattle, Calcutta, Delhi, Mexico, Rio de Janeiro, Budapest, Guadalajara, Durban, Melbourne, Moscow, et cetera.

Jayananda Thakur was a factor chosen by Krishna to consolidate the Ratha-yatra festivals in several North American cities. Our debt to him is great. I consider that, whatever the Vaisnava mission held in the West the Ratha-yatra, not only in ISKCON, should carry in the car of Lord Jagannatha an appropriate image of Jayananda Takhur. As a token of appreciation, the nobility of all envy-free Vaisnava forces us to recognize the pioneering service of our beloved spiritual brother Sri Jayananda Thakur. That will be good for everyone and will surely please Lord Jagannatha, because as the Visnu Purana says, "whoever claims to be My devotee, is not really my devotee. To one who considers himself a devotee of my devotee, I really recognize him as My devotee. "

Sri Jagannatha is not only Puri-natha, the Lord of Puri-dhama, his sacred place, but the Lord (natha) of the entire Universe (jagat). That sectarian view led Srila Prabhupada to say that if his Western disciples were not allowed the dharsan of the deities of Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra in the Jagannatha-Puri temple, he would not enter there either. By the desire of His pure devotees, Jagannatha left that temple to be worshiped and celebrate his Ratha-yatra festival throughout the planet Earth.

In a letter of Srila Prabhupada of May 11, 1977 addressed to Rameshvara, he expresses the following about his beloved disciple Jayananda:

"Jayananda's death is glorious. It is very good what he said, what is the use of a useless body, it is better to abandon it. He has left his body very beautifully and has been transferred to Vaikuntha. I have already sent a letter of condolence to be published in Back To Godehead. Everyone should follow Jayananda's example. I am very proud to have had such a good disciple. The image of Jayananda should be placed in the Ratha of Lord Jagannatha, and in all the temples it should be placed to celebrate a festival in his honor, just as we do on the day of the disappearance of other great Vaisnavas ... ".

After suffering the painful leukemia disease that prostrated him and diminished the great strength of his body, finally being in a wheelchair, Jayananda disappeared glossingly on May 1, 1977. He joined the Krishna consciousness movement in 1967, just in its beginnings, and left the planet a few months before Srila Prabhupada, who departed from Vrindavana to his eternal pastimes, on November 14, 1977.

As we will see in the following biographical compilations that I have translated for the knowledge of the Hispanic devotees, that Jayananda left before Srila Prabhupada, was an arrangement of Krishna so that our beloved spiritual master could recognize in life his deep gratitude and affection for his disciple exemplary Jayananda, "the king of the Ratha-yatra," who in just ten years of untiring dedication to the service of Sri Guru and Sri Krishna-Jagannatha, attained spiritual perfection, because as Prabhupada said, Jayananda went to the spiritual world of Vaikuntha and its appearance and disappearance should be celebrated in the devotional calendar as it is done with other great Vaisnava saints. In addition, Prabhupada said that Jayananda's photo should be placed in Jagannatha's car in all the ISKCON Ratha-yatras to be celebrated anywhere in the world.

Jayananda Dasa - A modern saint

Biographical accounts of Kalakantha dasa,

On January 16, 1967, Srila Prabhupada flew from New York to San Francisco to inaugurate the Hare Krishna temple there. His arrival was covered by the Four News television channel and local newspapers. While most of San Francisco may have been unaware of the story, a young man named Jim Kohr warned her. Despite having a degree in mechanical engineering from Ohio State University, he had been driving a taxi in the streets of San Francisco. Without ever being able to fit into the conglomerate of the upper class, he was often unhappy and did not really know why. Although Jim was not a religious person, the article ignited a ray of hope in him. And he decided to go see the Swami of India.

Without knowing it, Jim was taking the first step to fulfill his destiny. Although he would live for only another ten years, in that short time he would witness the culmination of lives of spiritual effort. He would leave the world leaving behind many valuable lessons to inspire and instruct the present and future generations of Vaisnavas, the devotees of the Lord.

The next afternoon, Jim arrived at the temple to find it filled mainly with hippies. He stood out for his short hair, neat appearance and tight clothing. And at the age of 28, he was older than most of the others who were there. But Jim's misgivings disappeared when he saw the Swami enter, Jim sat down to listen to the lecture and bought a three-volume set of Srimad-Bhagavatam that Srila Prabhupada dedicated to him with the inscription "A Sriman Jim Kohr". For the first time in many years, Jim felt peaceful. He had received the hearing of his eternal spiritual master.

Jim started going regularly to the temple. He especially liked the morning show, when most of the hippies were still asleep. Sometimes he would be the only person in the class. Years later, he revealed that he trusted the Swami and believed that he would not be deceived. Once, when he was four years old, Jim had stood in the church and was looking around anxiously. When his grandmother asked him what was wrong, he asked him: "Where is God?" Now he felt that Srila Prabhupada was answering that old question buried deep in his conscience. In February of 1967, Prabhupada accepted Jim as his disciple and initiated him with the name of Jayananda Dasa.

In the Vaisnava scriptures, such as the Madhurya-kadambini of Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura, we learn that before attaining spontaneous love for God, the conditioned soul progresses through the states of sadhana-bhakti (devotional practice). The new bhaktas (devotees) in the San Franciso temple often had problems with their material desires and daily spiritual practices, falling in and out of Krishna consciousness.

Surprisingly, nobody remembers Jayananda in the role of a "new bhakta". He naturally and easily took Krishna consciousness. He liked all aspects of Krishna consciousness-singing his japa rounds, singing in kirtana, eating prasada, performing the worship of the Deity, and everything else. He would often comment: "Krishna consciousness is very sweet".

In fact, Jayananda found Krishna consciousness so sweet that he soon lost the taste for everything else. He gave Srila Prabhupada his life savings, and in the Prologue to The Nectar of Devotion, Prabhupada publicly thanked him: "I want to acknowledge, with gratitude, the contribution made by my dear disciple Sriman Jayananda Brahmacari."

Paying the bills

Jayananda became absorbed in practical devotional service. He was constantly serving the Lord, either buying the supplies, cooking the prasada, cleaning the kitchen, taking out the garbage, or teaching the new devotees. He did all of that after a full day of work as a taxi driver, where he paid all the bills from the temple. He became an expert in everything that was needed to spread Krishna consciousness. He went out to sell The Teachings of Lord Chaitanya of Srila Prabhupada, becoming a pioneer in an esteemed service by Prabhupada - the public distribution of pasted books of Krishna consciousness.

On the day of Lord Chaitanya's appearance, Srila Prabhupada was very happy to see Jayananda spontaneously performing kirtana on the street outside the temple. Then, encouraged, Jayananda began to sing regularly with other devotees in the busiest streets, establishing the pillars for the singing groups that would soon travel throughout the country.

As many devotees as other people were instinctively attracted to Jayananda's purity. Once, when he offered a garland to Srila Prabhupada, he apologized for his greasy clothes. Srila Prabhupada commented: "There is absolutely no offense. You, my disciples, can be dirty, but your hearts are pure. "

Jayananda touched the hearts of many people, and they usually responded by doing some service for Krishna. He got almost everything free for the temple or at a considerable discount. He was friends of the shopkeepers, the city police, the drunks, the infidels and the destitute marginals. Everyone loved Jayananda, and he engaged everyone joyfully in the service of the Lord. He worked harder than anyone, but praised the service of everyone else. He was humble, tolerant, compassionate, and renunciant. His actions, his words, his life, and his death, all exemplified the process of bhakti, devotional service to the Lord.

Srila Prabhupada's instructions, especially those that encouraged practical service, became Jayananda's very life. Once, when a devotee asked him how to advance in Krishna consciousness, Jayananda shrugged and said, "I really do not know. I'm too busy working. "

Jayananda was so immersed in executing Prabhupada's instructions that he rarely had time to meet Srila Prabhupada. Serving in separation, he understood that association through instructions is more important than physical association. It is said that one must act in such a way that Krishna wants to see him; Jayananda exemplified this saying by his attitude of service.

Invariably Srila Prabhupada used to ask about Jayananda, and someone would have to go look for him. For Jayananda, Sri Krishna and Srila Prabhupada were the only two ultimate truths. Everything else, including his body, was engaged in his service.

Throwing the Ratha-yatra

One day, devotees got a small deity of Lord Jagannatha (Krishna as "Lord of the universe") in an import store. Srila Prabhupada told them to return to get the other deities of the game - Lord Balarama and Subhadra Devi. And so began His worship in the temple. Meditating on the Deities, Srila Prabhupada expressed his intense desire to extend his mercy by organizing a Ratha-yatra, the car festival that is celebrated each year in His honor in the holy city of Puri, in India. Jayananda dedicated himself to fulfilling that desire of Prabhupada. Starting with a tow truck, he made a "car" with what he could get from the devotees. On July 9, 1967, the first Ratha-yatra was celebrated in San Francisco - the first in history outside of India - all due to blood, sweat and Jayananda's work.

Jayananda improved the festival year after year, getting the money, the permits, making the publicity, building from the huge big cars digging everywhere, and even the cakes he cooked for the groups with which he would act reciprocally, like the police of the City and the US Park Service He would live with the cars while they were being built, often working almost without sleep, when the festival date was approaching. Eventually held in Golden Gate Park, the Ratha-yatra festival year after year attracted more crowds. Thanks to the efforts of Jayananda, thousands of people received the mercy of Lord Jagannatha. The festivals are currently held in all cities around the world.

Srila Prabhupada often expressed his deep gratitude to Jayananda for the festivals. When Jayananda passed away, Srila Prabhupada said that his image should be carried in one of the cars in each Ratha-yatra.

Your sick body

While preparing the New York Ratha-yatra in 1976, Jayananda felt painful lumps growing on his body. A spiritual brother worried that they might be cancerous, but Jayananda made him promise not to tell Srila Prabhupada until after the party. Jayananda's main concern was that the Ratha-yatra should be a success; everything else was secondary.

The Ratha-yatra New York [to which the translator of all this had the fortune to participate and see Jayananda for the first time] was in fact a great success. Rolling down Fifth Avenue, the three cars charmed thousands of people, and many were inspired to ask and even accept the practices of Krishna consciousness. Srila Prabhupada was ecstatic, he said it was a great success and he thanked Jayananda for his valuable service.

The bumps on Jayananda's body turned out to be cancerous. He was diagnosed with leukemia, which gradually reduced his body to a peel. Accepting that he would die soon, Jayananda continued to express his deep gratitude to Srila Prabhupada. His friends were frightened and saddened to see his body desolated by the disease. But Jayananda was still too busy, performing devotional service to give him much concern. And when he agreed to continue medical treatment, he used his time in the hospital to preach about Krishna consciousness to doctors, nurses, and patients.

Jayananda was constantly thinking about how to extend the Ratha-yatra to other cities. In his last months, he helped organize the Ratha-yatra in Los Angeles, making the phone calls, getting the money, and guiding the devotees. One day, while walking on Venice Beach, where the festival would be held, he looked down and, as if visualizing the next festival, he said: "It will be a wonderful Ratha-yatra!"

On May 1, 1977, just a few months before the festival, Jayananda left this world. In a letter written to Jayananda after his departure, Srila Prabhupada congratulated him for having a glorious life and an even more glorious death, since in life and death he had been absorbed in Krishna's service. Srila Prabhupada ordered that the day of Jayananda's disappearance be celebrated as that of other Vaisnava saints. As eloquently said Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur:

"Reason wrong who says that the Vaisnavas die, because they live in their works! Vaisnavas die to live, and living they try to spread the holy name everywhere. "

When I think about Jayananda, I imagine this scene: Somewhere an ISKCON Ratha-yatra is about to begin. The sounds of conchshells and the exclamations of "Jaya Jagannatha!" Penetrate the sky. Seeing from the spiritual world, Jayananda turns to Srila Prabhupada who nods and says, "Thank you very much."

Annexed

The test of a theory is its implementation. When one spends a long time analyzing the process of bhakti, faith emerges quickly when one sees the theory in action. Jayananda Prabhu is such a devotee, who exemplified in a very beautiful way the process of bhakti, from the beginning to the realization. When he left his body on May 1, 1977, Srila Prabhupada instructed that his disappearance should be celebrated as that of a great Vaisnava. Observing the pastimes of such devotees, our faith in the process of bhakti is greatly reaffirmed.

The following is another biographical remembrance of the transcendental activities of Jayananda Thakur, which appeared in another reference. Due to its complementary importance, I have also translated this additional testimony.

The background of Jayananda

Jim Kohr was a typical American boy. Handsome, strong, intelligent, born in a family of high middle class. Being a good student, he graduated as a mechanical engineer from Ohio State University. However, despite his external successes, he was often unhappy, empty and dissatisfied with the materialistic conception of life. Jim did not fit into the group of high class people, so it was not surprising that he ended up driving taxis in San Francisco.

Although he was an introspective person, he was not very religious. His depression was almost suicidal, when in 1967 he read a small San Francisco newspaper article about an Indian Swami who had come to the Bay Area to spread the song of the names of God. For some reason, the article ignited a ray of hope within him. And he decided to attend the Swami's conference.

In the Bhagavad Gita (7.16), Krishna says: "Four classes of pious men begin to render me devotional service: the afflicted, the one who desires riches, the inquirer and the one who seeks knowledge about the Absolute." Jim was looking for answers to the questions of material miseries, and in that attitude he took the first step towards his destiny.

Its beginnings

Jim was instantly attracted to the Indian Swami, who was none other than Srila Prabhupada, the founding acharya of ISKCON. He had been in U.S.A for only one year and was in the process of establishing his mission to bring Krishna consciousness to the Western world. Jim began to attend regularly in the morning to the Bhagavatam class given by Srila Prabhupada. Sometimes Jim would be the only guest who listened to that conference. Soon he became very attached to Srila Prabhupada and his teachings. Prabhupada reciprocated lovingly and sometimes personally cooked the prasadam for Jim and served it to him. Shortly after, Srila Prabhupada accepted Jim as his disciple and initiated him with the spiritual name of Jayananda Das.

In the Chaitanya-caritamrta (Madhya-lila, 19.151), Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says that: "... Of the many millions of living entities that roam the universe, only the one who is very fortunate receives, by the grace of Krishna, the opportunity to relate to a genuine spiritual master. By the mercy of Krishna and the spiritual master, that person receives the seed of the vine of devotional service. "

In this way, Jayananda received the seed of devotion, due to the unjust mercy of Srila Prabhupada. From the instructions and teachings presented by Srila Prabhupada, he understood his special relationship with Krishna and the guru, and that there is an authorized process to establish that relationship.

Your attraction to Krishna consciousness

Jayananda was completely in love with Krishna consciousness. He got up early every morning before four, did a little artik, sang his rounds, read and cooked prasada. Then he used to go for his "incense program", selling incense sticks. He never deviated from that, and was completely happy practicing Krishna consciousness.

Jayananda adored prasada. When a little prasada fell on the ground he would lick it. He loved to cook, eat, offer and distribute prasada in a big way. He even said "prasada" with so much love and devotion that it made one immediately want to drink something.

Another example of his attachment for Krishna consciousness was his love for the holy name. He was always seen singing and dancing enthusiastically during the kirtanas. One day, after working hard for ten hours in a row, when all the other devotees wanted to rest, Jayananada went into the temple room to do kirtan. His japa was very intense, very concentrated, as if striving to associate personally with each of the syllables of the maha-mantra.

In the Bhakti-rasamrta sindhu, Srila Rupa Goswami mentions that the process of sadhana-bhakti begins with a little faith (sraddha). That faith flourishes in the desire for association with the devotees (sadhu-sanga), and then in bhajana-kriya (devotional service). Similarly, after receiving the association of Srila Prabhupada and other devotees in the temple, Jayananda began performing devotional service by the instructions he received from his spiritual master. By sincerely executing his sadhana, he purified himself of the material impediments of devotional service (anartha-nivriti) and began to manifest the fully attractive qualities of a pure devotee.

His humility

Humility was certainly the most outstanding quality of Jayananda. He treated everyone as his superior, even the new devotees. Although his service was glorious, he never wanted any glory. He avoided praise like the plague. The devotees knew that if they wanted to have Jayananda's association it was better not to praise him. His humility was very natural and he always glorifies the service of others. Even though he was a senior devotee, older than most of the people around him and eminently qualified, he was happy to simply serve.

Once a new boy in the temple wanted to do some service and was asked to help with the trash. Jayananda made the weekly collection of trash cans, and he cheerfully accepted the boy's little help. Later when the boy became a devotee, he recalled: "If the garbage men in this temple can be so blessed, imagine how the other devotees will be!"

In the third verse of the Siksastakam, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu establishes the qualification to sing without offenses: "One should chant the holy name of the Lord in a humble state of mind, thinking himself lower than the leaf litter in the street. One must be more tolerant than the tree, be devoid of all sense of false prestige and be willing to offer all respect to others. In such a state of mind one can constantly chant the holy name of the Lord. " Jayananda exemplified this verse. He was so humble, that simply being in his association, one felt ashamed of one's pride. He was very special, but nobody paid him special attention. That was simply the way he liked things.

Your attitude of service

Jayananda was expert in everything: cooking, preaching, worshiping the Deity, public relations, sankirtan, selling incense, in the construction of the ratha yatra wagons and in everything he did to spread Krishna consciousness. He was a tireless worker; he was the first to get up in the morning and the last to go to sleep at night. He was always busy getting the flowers, washing the utensils, cleaning the kitchen or taking the garbage out. Any service that was given was done expertly, no matter how busy he was or how much personal difficulty he had to do it. No matter how hard he worked, he never stopped for a break during the day. He seemed tireless.

Many times, when Jayananda went to Berkeley to distribute surplus prasada, the former used to organize a crew to clean the kitchen, working twice as much as anyone else. Then, I transferred the prasada, loaded it in the truck, drove to Berkeley, organized the distribution there and did kirtan when it was happening. Many years later, he quickly accepted the position of conductor of the Radha-Damodara group of traveling sankirtan, working alongside brahmacharis who were barely half his age. Despite his seniority and his advanced position, he never asked for anything special and accepted the servant position of the new devotees.

In the Visnu Purana, Sri Krishna says to Arjuna: "Whoever claims to be My devotee is not really My devotee. Only one who claims to be the devotee of My devotee is really My devotee. " Jayananda fully manifested this quality. But there was no artificial humility. Material humility is relative, it is in the qualities of its depositaries. But Jayananda had spiritual humility, it was absolute, without any consideration for the status or qualities of the depositary. He served everyone and did not expect anyone to serve him.

The process of remembering, commenting or enumerating the qualities and pastimes of the Lord and His devotees is very purifying. This week we will continue the description of the qualities of Jayananda Prabhu, who in a relatively short time was associated with Krishna consciousness, perfected his devotional service and left us many exemplary instructions.

He was free to find faults

Perhaps the most definite characteristic of Jayananda was that he never criticized anyone. Even if a devotee did something that merited criticism, he usually did not say anything, or made the mistake seem perfectly natural. In never said harsh words or punished anyone. Sometimes the devotees used to go to see him with expansive ideas of how to preach Krishna consciousness, Jayananda encouraged those ideas, extraordinarily. At the same time, he was not a fool. I always picked the right man for the job.

In The Nectar of Instruction (verse 5), Srila Rupa Goswami says: "... one should associate and serve faithfully the pure devotee who is advanced in devotional service performed without deviations, and whose heart is completely free from the propensity to criticize to others. "

Jayananda could not even hear criticism from another devotee. If it happened, he would simply leave the place. These are the characteristics of an uttama-adhikari, one who has attained the highest level of perfection in his sadhana-bhakti.

Loved by all

Like the six Goswamis, Jayananda was loved by both the Gentiles and the ruffians. He was both at home with the Italians in the product market, as he was with the Brahmacharis in the temple. Once a devotee was approached in San Francisco by a staggering drunk who looked at his robes and asked, "Hey, where's my old friend Jayananda?"

Many devotees who were in the old territory of Jayananda would meet people who said things like: Where is Johnny Ananda? "Or" He is the man he is best and the purest I have met ", or" I do not know much about your philosophy, but if Jayananda is there, it must be good. "

A woman who was a public official on the San Francisco Board was famous for causing problems to the devotees during the Ratha-yatra. One year, when the devotees approached her, she asked: "Where is Jayananda?" Upon learning that he had passed away, she broke down and started crying. The purity in Jayananda's heart moved even the most cynical.

In the Bhagavad-gita (5.7) Krishna says that: "He who works with devotion, who is a pure soul and who controls the mind and the senses, is dear to all, and all are dear to him. Although that person always works, he never gets tangled up. " Everyone loved Jayananda, because he was completely transcendental to the bodily conception. He approached the drunk, the hippie or a devotee, with the same compassion and enthusiasm. He spoke to the Supersoul in each one, and everyone responded accordingly. As Maharaja Yudhisthira, Jayananda's enemy was never born.

Expert in occupying everyone

It is said that although Krishna has nothing to do with those who are not devotees, His devotees are even more compassionate than He and will try to occupy everyone in the service of the Lord. Jayananda was eager to see everyone engaged in the service of Krishna. Whenever a new bhakta Jayananda arrived, it made him feel that he was engaged in important work. He was older, bigger and stronger than almost anyone in the temple, and we were all glad to be working under his guidance.

His style of preaching was simple and direct. He spoke from the heart to the heart. Once, he was preaching to a couple of hippies while crawling under a car. All that was visible of Jayananda was a pair of legs, but the two hippies that were left there, transfigured by his message. During the Ratha-yatra he used to organize out of the street a gang of non-cooperative, cynical, hippie, foolish, and non-devout personalities, to help him build the cars. He occupied them working for ten or fourteen hours a day, always glorifying them.

In the Chaitanya-caritamrta (Antya-lila, 7.11) it is said: "The chanting of the holy name of Krishna is the fundamental religious system in the age of Kali. Without being endowed with power by Krishna, it is not possible to propagate the sankirtana movement. " Because of genuine compassion in Jayananda, Krishna gave him the unique ability to make people want to do devotional service, directly or indirectly.

Materially waived

Jayananda had almost no possessions, even during his years as a married man. Everything he had he used for the temple service and Srila Prabhupada. When he had five thousand dollars, he promptly donated them to Srila Prabhupada. In the introduction to The Nectar of Devotion, Srila Prabhupada is grateful for that contribution. For many years he maintained the temple on his own, driving his taxi for 12-14 hours a day. In his last days of life, he used the money he was given for his treatment to support the Ratha-yatra in Los Angeles.

For many years he kept the temple driving his taxi for 12-14 hours a day. When he was in his last days of his life, he used the money given to him for his treatment to support the Ratha-yatra in Los Angeles.

He was extremely careful with what he considered to be Srila Prabhupada's money. When selling the incense, he would sleep on the park benches in the bitter cold, instead of spending the money in a motel. He used his considerable charm to get people to donate almost everything that was needed. What he could not get for free, he made sure to receive a good price for the money spent.

His last lesson in material detachment was when it was discovered that he was suffering from lymph and blood cancer, leukemia. Jayananda continued as if nothing had changed. When her body became frail and weak, she continued to preach, inspire and organize from her bed in the hospital. For him, the body was simply a means of rendering devotional service to the Lord.

In the Chaitanya-charitamrta (Madhya-lila, 6.254), Chaitanya Mahaprabhu summarizes in the phrase "vairagya-vidya-nija-bhakti-yoga", which means "renunciation through knowledge that comes from practical devotional service". Jayananda was a true sannyasi, who did not simply renounce material objects but really gave up the desire for these material objects. He was always eager to use everything for Krishna's service, however he had no personal desire for anything material.

Jayananda: the King of Ratha-yatra

For several years, Jayananda was the backbone of the Bay Area (of San Francisco) of the Ratha-yatra. Behind the scenes he did everything for the preparation of the festival. I would order food, flowers, funds - to buy the materials and build the carts. He would get the permits, organize the kitchen and distribute the prasada. Although things always went well, he would consistently succeed in fulfilling all those plans every year. After the festival I would cook a cake or cake for everyone who had helped in some way at the festival. Because of their efforts, San Francisco Bay area devotees enjoy an incredibly harmonious relationship with city police.

In his last days, Jayananda was busy organizing the Ratha-yatra from the hospital bed. He talked on the phone with people, he sent his associates to interview several people and things miraculously began to materialize. Every moment of his life was used preciously in the service of Krishna.

The courage of Jayananda

Jayananda was not only great and powerful in body, he was strong in his faith in Krishna. Therefore, nothing could frighten him. Once, on Market Street in San Francisco, Jayananda was playing the mridanga and directing a group of kirtan performing on the street a huge man appeared. It was at least 7 feet tall and weighed perhaps 300 pounds. His careless beard and drunken appearance indicated that he was an old veteran living in bars near his boarding house. Approaching the kirtana group, the reserve ksatriyas of the temple, Kesava dasa and Guru-kripa dasa, were ready for a fight.

Very confident, the monster approached Jayananda, turned and began to shout: "Stop that song!" Jayananda looked him straight in the eyes and finally said: "Only Hare Krishna sings. Only Hare Krishna sings! "To everyone's amazement, the drunk simply turned and walked away without having a fight.

The final expression of Jayananda's lack of fear came at the end of his life when he contracted leukemia and cancer of the lymph glands. He wrote from the hospital: "I was back for a couple of weeks of intensive treatment. Actually, everything was a true blessing, since it made me understand that death is there, within reach. I somehow need these important reminders to help me move forward in Krishna consciousness. While I was in the temple I appreciated Krishna consciousness more than ever before, therefore it has been a true blessing. "

Even in his last months in New Dwaraka, Jayananda never succumbed to fear or grief on his own. When his old friends entered his room and saw him in his pale form and ghostly appearance, they found it difficult to talk to him because of his condition. What Jayananda communicated, on the other hand, was complete disinterest in the whole matter of his health. On the contrary, I was planning how to celebrate the Ratha-yatra in Los Angeles. Sitting in his wheelchair, looking like death personified, Jayananda could not stop thinking and talking about the Ratha-yatra.

Karandhara remembers seeing him from his desk: Jayananda was there, the personification of Krishna consciousness and the lack of fear of death. Karandhara was strangely surprised that he did not feel a great pity or remorse for Jayananda. Then he could understand that if Jayananda was so Krsna conscious, how could anyone see him and not be Krsna conscious? tatha dehantara praptir / dhiras tatra namuhyati (Bg 2-13).

Jayananda pushed the Ratha-yatra of Los Angeles until he was so weak that he could not pick up the phone and call old friends to ask for donations. In fact, he collected a large amount of Laksmi and planned the means by which the festival could be realized. The festival directors will immediately admit that, without Jayananda's presence, the Ratha-yatra festival could not have taken place in Los Angeles last year. Therefore, he proved that by engaging in devotional service, one transcends even the fear of death.

Its mystical opulence

It is said that pure devotional service brings a lot of opulence. Although the devotees never seek it, when they have it they use it for the service of Krishna.

Apparently, Jayananda could function asleep little or without sleeping almost nothing. In the last days of Ratha-yatra he slept less than three hours a day, but he was the most energetic and lively member of the group. His propensity to consume prasada was amazing. He could eat the halava cubes, the samosas dishes and potatoes without any collateral effect. When, in his final days, he was given an intravenous diet, he would still often ask the devotees to furtively search for him large quantities of samosas and potatoes with cheese, which he cheerfully consumed without any apparent pain. Sometimes, he would fall asleep in the Bhagavatam classes because he was very tired, but then he could quote perfectly from the class or have a deep discussion about its content.

In the Bhagavad-gita (14.26), Sri Krishna declares: "One who is fully engaged in devotional service, firm in all circumstances, immediately transcends the modes of material nature and thus comes to the plane of Brahman." In the Narada-pancaratra, devotional service to the Lord is compared to a Queen assisted by her servants in the form of material opulences, liberation and mysticism. Jayananda never had any hunger for such things, but when they came, he used them simply in Krishna's service.

Maxims of Jayananda Prabhu

Jayananda Thakur made his own notes on the cover of his book of Krishna in the form of a list of points:

"When I began to apply the clearly described principles of the book of Krishna in my life, I quickly experienced a new realm of mental balance and experienced inner happiness even in the midst of the most difficult circumstances. The result of practicing Krishna consciousness is that you will worry less and enjoy more. Your power of concentration, memory, understanding and creativity will increase. You will work with more energy, with greater confidence and efficiency, and you will relate better with people. And you will succeed more easily in whatever you try to do. At night, you will fall asleep immediately and in the morning you will wake up fully refreshed with even less sleep than you normally need. Consequently, you will understand the true purpose of your life and your unique role in creation. "

Posthumous letter of Srila Prabhupada to his disciple Sriman Jayananda Dasa

Bombay, May 5, 1977

My dear Jayananda:

Please accept my blessings.

I am feeling your separation very intensely. In 1967 you joined me in San Francisco. You were driving my car and chanting Hare Krishna. You were the first man to give me some contribution ($ 5,000) to print my Bhagavad-gita. After that, you have rendered a very favorable service to Krishna in different ways. Therefore, I hope that at the time of your death you have been remembering Krishna, and therefore you have been promoted to His eternal association. If not, if you have had some small material desire, you will have gone to the celestial kingdom to live with the demigods for many thousands of years and enjoy the most opulent life of material existence. From there you can promote yourself to the spiritual world. But even if one fails to promote oneself to the spiritual world, at that moment the person returns to the face of this earth and is born in an aristocratic family, where again there is an opportunity to revive Krishna consciousness, but because you had been listening Krishna-kirtana, I'm sure you were directly promoted to Krishnaloka.

Krishna has done you a great favor by allowing you to continue in your sick body and has given you a suitable place for your service.

Thank you very much.

Your eternal well-wisher,

Jayananda's death is glorious. What he has said is very good. What is the use of this useless body? Better leave it. He has left his body very beautifully, and has been transferred to Vaikuntha. I already sent a letter of condolence to be published in Back to the Supreme ("Back to Godhead"). Everyone should follow Jayananda's example. I am very proud to have had such a good disciple. If possible, the photo of Jayananda should be hung in the ratha of Lord Jagannatha, and in all our temples a day should be chosen to make a festival of honor, just as we do on the day of the disappearance of other great Vaisnavas.
