But a śāstra (sastra means sacred scripture) can not change according to a person's whim. All śāstras must be free from the four defects of human nature. What the śāstras affirm must be correct at all times. And in Chaitanya Charitamrita, Adi-lila, 17, 169 Srila Prabhupada says that the śāstras of the yavanas, those who eat meat, are not eternal scriptures. They have been formulated recently, and sometimes, they contradict each other. The scriptures of the Yavanas are three: the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the Koran. They were written in the course of the story; they are not eternal like Vedic knowledge. Therefore, although they have their arguments and their reasoning, they are not very solid or transcendental. Because of this, the people of today, advanced in science and philosophy, consider that these scriptures are unacceptable.
