Instructions of Ramanujacharya
Worship all Vaisnavas or devotees of God through your own guru. He told them to have faith in the previous acharyas or spiritual masters and by doing this you will never fall under the control of the senses. Devotees are never just satisfied with the mundane knowledge, so they study the Scriptures and sing the glories of the Supreme Lord. Transcendental knowledge can overcome the thrust of the mind and senses, and one can become indifferent to the suggestions of the mind. Best just to always taste the chanting the holy names and qualities of the Lord, and the best way to serve the Lord is offering service to the devotees.
The Vaisnavas never engage for material gains, but always strive for purity. They employ some time each day to contemplate the greatness of the spiritual master, and study every day the teachings of the Vaishnava acharyas. Also they always hold relations with those who are committed to the Lord while avoiding those who teach different paths of devotional service and avoid those who are interested in sensual pleasures and who believe that the deity is a stone, or who thinks that the guru is an ordinary person, and those who see devotees in terms of caste designation. We also avoid those who think that charanamrita water is simple, and those that think that the Holy Name is a mundane sound vibration and that the Supreme Lord is as one of the demigods. Certainly a person with such a mentality is destined to hellish life.
When Yatiraja finished speaking, the disciples asked how they should behave in this world. Ramanujacharya instructed them: "He who has surrendered to Lord Narayana should not worry about their future and must always depend on the mercy of the Lord, all the duties must be met as offerings of devotion to the Lord and never seeking material gain, and study and always teach the Sri-Bhasya and others, for this service is the most pleasing to the Lord. If that is not possible then study the teachings of other devotees and after some disciples of disciples. If you can not do this then go to a sacred place and reside there, or go and there Yadavadri and serve the Lord. If you can not do this, stay where you have given to your guru and meditate on Vaishnava mantras. If any of these things you can not do then simply seek a pure heart Vaishnava and be always in their company. Distinguish carefully between friends, enemies and those who are indifferent, for the Vaisnavas will be your friends, atheists and blasphemers I despise and hate, and the worldly people be indifferent to you. Be with devotees that joyously relate, and avoid strictly the blasphemers and you will never be perturbed by plans of materialistic worldly men. Never eulogize princes and worldly men to get your food, and always remember that the Supreme Lord takes care of those who have surrendered to Him. Take refuge in Him and have faith in Him alone. If you follow these instructions, you will never be without me, so why lament the disappearance temporary body? "
