The wishes of enjoyment, by Haripada dasa
In relation to the theme I share this verse and the meaning of Srila Prabhupada of the Bhagavatam, 6, 1, 62, there it is said that Ajāmila, with patience, did everything he could to remember the instructions of the śāstras or scriptures, which advise neither even look at women. With the help of that knowledge and his intellect, he tried to master his lustful desires, but Cupid's strength in his heart prevented him from controlling the mind. And Srila Prabhupada says in the meaning that if we are not very strong in the cultivation of knowledge, patience and adequate physical, mental and intellectual behavior, it will be extremely difficult for us to master the desire for enjoyment. Thus, when seeing a man embracing a young woman practically engaged in the sexual act, not even that brāhmaṇa or perfectly gifted priest, who had all the qualities described above, could master the desires of enjoyment and refrain from satisfying them. The influence of materialistic life is so powerful that it is enormously difficult to master, unless we enjoy the special protection that the Supreme Personality of Godhead provides through devotional service. This story of Ajamila is very interesting, he was at first a pure priest, but later degraded by associating with a prostitute, he had 10 children with her, and the younger one called him Narayana, At the time of death, when the envoys of Yamarāja or the lord of death went to look for him, Ajāmila, full of fear, shouted aloud the name of Nārāyaṇa, due to the attachment he felt for his youngest son. In this way he remembered the original Nārāyaṇa, Lord Viṣṇu or God. His chanting of the holy name of Nārāyaṇa was not completely free of offenses, but nevertheless it had an effect. As soon as he chanted the holy name of Nārāyaṇa, the envoys of Lord Viṣṇu appeared, who immediately engaged in an argument with the servants of Yamarāja; Ajāmila, upon hearing that conversation, freed himself. Then he could understand the harmful effect of fruitive activities, as well as the exalted nature of the process of devotional service.
This story of Ajamila reveals to us the great power of chanting the holy names of God or Krishna, it is said in the Scriptures that if a person sings the name of Krishna only once, counteract all his sinful activities, it is also said that one may be chanting Hare Krishna for many millions of births, but if he sings with offenses he will never reach the state of love for God. In this case, Ajamila finally, due to his contact with the viṣṇudūtas or servants of God, Ajāmila saw awakening to his original state of consciousness, abandoned everything, and left for Hardwar, where he occupied himself without deviation in devotional service, always thinking of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The Viṣṇudūtas went to look for him, seated him on a golden throne and took him back to Vaikuṇṭhaloka or the spiritual world.
