Devotional service, by Haripada dasa
God or Krishna says in the Gita that the only process to know him is devotional service, it is very interesting chapter 29 of the third chant of Srimad Bhagavatam, entitled Lord Kapila explains devotional service, from verses 8 to 12 are explained the symptoms of people who practice devotional service influenced by ignorance, passion, kindness and pure without blending. Also in the Bhagavatam, 1, 2, 6 it is said that the supreme occupation for all humanity is devotional service, and for that devotional service to satisfy the soul must be practiced without material reasons and without interruptions, in a video that I have of Srila Prabhupada says that there are people who come to Krishna consciousness with hidden desires, they are not interested in awakening their love for God, they want power, money and followers, those people will never get love for God, and without interruptions, I heard a Srila Prabhupada's class that said that a devotee told him that he was in Russia chanting Hare Krishna waiting for the bus, and two policemen came by and asked him what it is that you are singing, the devotee said it is a song that I heard in a movie, and the other cop to not look silly said it's true, I've also seen that movie and they left, and Srila Prabhupada was laughing saying that devotee very clever. The truth is that when someone awakens his Krishna consciousness no one can take it away, because that belongs to the soul, and as the Gita says, the soul can not be damped by the water, nor the fire burn it and the wind wither it, the soul it is superior energy of God and matter is inferior energy of Krishna.
In El Chaitanya Charitamrita, Adi lila, 1, 56, Srila Prabhupada says that here the words directly and indirectly suggest that the method of devotional service should be learned in its two aspects: directly apply the method of devotional service and indirectly avoid the obstacles to advance . Directly are the 9 processes: 1) Listen to the name and glories of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. 2) Sing your glories. 3) Remember the Lord. 4) Serve at the feet of the Lord. 5) Worship the deity of the Lord. 6) Offer obeisances to the Lord. 7) Act as servant of the Lord. 8) Make friends with the Lord and 9) Surrender completely to the Lord. And the obstacles that must be avoided are in the Nectar of instruction, in verse two, there it is said that when someone becomes too entangled in the following six activities, his devotional service is ruined; (1) Eat more than necessary, or accumulate more funds than required; (2) To strain too much for mundane things that are very difficult to obtain; (3) talk unnecessarily about mundane issues; (4) follow the rules and regulations of the Scriptures solely for following them and not for advancing spiritually, or rejecting the rules and regulations of the Scriptures and working independently or capriciously; (5) associate with people of worldly inclinations who are not interested in cultivating Kṛṣṇa consciousness; and (6) covet mundane achievements. The first 19 chapters of the Nectar of devotion inform us of all the details of devotional service, and in Chaitanya Charitamrita, Madhya-lila, 1, 91, Srila Prabhupada says that devotional service means occupying everything in satisfying the Supreme Personality of Godhead. .
