The mind, the madwoman of the house Part 2, by Javier Figuerola or Haripada dasa
In the preface to the Upadesamrita or nectar of instruction, Srila Prabhupada says: "The first duty in all spiritual matters is to control the mind and the senses. Unless you control your mind and your senses, you can not advance anything in the spiritual life. " In Bhagavad-Gita 6: 34-35 it is said: "Because the mind is restless, turbulent, stubborn and very strong, O Krishna, and to subdue it, I believe, is more difficult than controlling the wind. Lord Sri Krishna said: Oh, you, son of Kunti, the one of the powerful arms! To contain the restless mind is undoubtedly something very difficult to do, but this is possible through proper practice and detachment. And in the meaning Srila Prabhupada says: "By detaching the mind from activities that are not consecrated to the Lord, it becomes very easy to learn vairagya. Vairagya means detachment from matter and make the mind to dedicate itself to the spirit. Impersonal spiritual detachment is more difficult than attaching the mind to Krishna's activities. This is practical, because when one hears Krsna, one automatically attaches oneself to the Supreme Spirit. That attachment is called paresanubhuti, spiritual satisfaction. " And Srila Prabhupada in the same meaning instructs us: "It is something like curing a disease through expert treatment and proper diet. Thus, hearing about the transcendental activities of Lord Krishna is the expert treatment for the alienated mind, and eating the food that has been offered to Krishna is the right diet for the suffering patient. That treatment constitutes the process of Krishna consciousness. " I want to share with you a lecture given by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Gosvami Prabhupada given in Calcutta on 7-12-1936, entitled "The Evil Mind." This evil mind, which can not be trusted, must be beaten with the broom every morning with the following warning: "Do not be anxious to find fault in others, or declare yourself a pure devotee of God or Krishna truly sincere and authentic, which certainly is not, "there is a teaching in the saying:" A man who is accustomed to criticize the conduct of others, will never prosper. " Let others do what they want, it does not concern me, rather I must find fault in my doomed mind and think like the Vaisnava Mahajana who sang: "Always engaged in vicious activities ... and without the tiny virtue in me, liar as I am, always lamenting to see the pleasures of others and enjoy seeing the grief, problems and worries of others. We must always remember this song and occupy our mind unceasingly in Hari-bhajan. We should not run around attacking others with dissuasive policies, such conduct is only appropriate for deceiters, not preachers. In connection with the subject, there are very powerful instructions in Srimad Bhagavatam 5.11.17. The devotee Jada Bharata instructs King Rahugana: "That mind out of control is the greatest enemy of the living entity. If we are not careful with it and we give it a chance, it will become more and more powerful and it will conquer us. Although it is not real, it is very powerful, and covers the constitutional position of the soul. Oh king, please try to beat that mind with the weapon of service at the lotus feet of the spiritual master and the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Put all your efforts into it. " And in the meaning Srila Prabhupada says: "There is a weapon with which it is very easy to overcome the mind: to ignore it". Conclusion: We advise you to read the Sri Mana Siksa. Instructions to the mind by Srila Raghunatha Dasa Gosvami, here we are going to show you verse 1. Oh, my dear sister, my silly mind! After having fastened your feet, I humbly pray you with sweet words. Please abandon all pride and quickly develop a sublime and incessant rati or attachment to Sri Gurudeva, Sri Vraja Dhama, the residents of Vraja, the Vaisnavas, the brahmanas, your mantras of diksa, the holy names of the Supreme Lord, and the refuge of Kisora-kisiri, Sri Sri Radha-Krsna, the eternally young divine couple of Vraja.
